Purpose
Griffin and Bartholomew (1994) developed a 30-item scale to quantify the attachment model within the four
subcategories. The Relationship Scales Questionnaire, adapted by Sümer and Güngör (1999) to the four
attachment styles, is used in our country. The aim of this study is, beginning with the attachment style scale
of Bartholomew and Griffin (1994), to create a useful scale tool to solve the continuing validity and reliability
problems of the Relationship Scales Questionnaire. The four-dimensional attachment scale which was
developed in quantifiable structure by Bartholomew and Griffin (1994) has not produced sufficiently reliable
results in the measurement of attachment styles. Additionally the debate about a range of problems related
to the validity and reliability of the Relationship Scales Questionnaire frequently used in Turkey constitute
the necessity for this study. So the aim of this study is to develop an alternative measurement tool to
determine attachment styles.
