Research
So far, a large number of studies dealing with the effects of specific types of diseases and disabilities on spousal relationships were carried out. On the one hand, we realize that in a certain direction each specific type of disease brings a unique experience for both partners in a marriage, but on the other hand, we assumpt that the type of the disease is often a matter of mostly medical aetiology, which indeed, plays an important role, but social experience with disabilities is generally very similar to those with more types of diagnoses. The fact how disability limits the mobility and autonomy of man can have a much greater impact on the individual, than the mere fact of aetiology. We agree with the opinion of Cup et al. (2011), who argue that it is very important for social workers, but also other helping professionals not to focus only on physical function, but to shift their interest to the person, respectively to the couple, in order to understand not only the disease but also the experience of those with it. In praxis this may mean replacing the traditional biomedical approach with more narrative approach, the thinking on barriers not only from the physical but also from the psychological and from the social perspectives, shifting self management towards the couple's management and to maximize the participation of persons with disabilities, to reduce the burden of healthy partners by raising support skills and finding a healthy balance between the separate and shared activities.
So far, in Slovakia has not been carried out research that would broadly map the impact of physical disability on marital relations. Assuming that the question of motivation in establishing partnerships with people with disabilities and the issues of adaptation to emerging disability in marriage is mostly a matter of psychology, we would like to examine the social context of disability in marriage especially for the needs of social workers working even with such couples, and to explore areas of social functioning, social support, barriers, but especially the daily functioning of the arrangement and married couples in which one partner has a disability.
Research objectives
The objective of our dissertation is to describe and to analyze the effects of disability on the people with physical disabilities, on their partners and on both as a couple and also to understand the social context of disability impact on everyday life and marital relationship. Secondary objectives of our research are to find out how partners perceive their role in marriage, how they are experiencing the need of providing and receiving care and how the interaction between the couple and their social environment works.
Methods and research sample
Our research will be carried out in form of a qualitative research strategy, through semi-structured interviews with married couples formed by men and women with disabilities and their nondisabled spouses. Research participants will obtain through Slovak civil associations. The entry criteria for the research will be the duration of the marital relationship minimum of one year and a physical disability of one of the partners. Admission criteria for disability would be congenital or acquired disability without a brain disorder and without intellectual deficits characterized by partial immobility and movement with the aids of a wheelchair. Research interviews will be conducted with each partner separately, and then they will be literally transcribed, coded and analyzed with the method of inductive creating categories.
Selected research findings from the pilot study
The pilot study, implemented as a part of the diploma thesis, carried out on the research sample of women with disabilities, in partnership with nondisabled men showed that disability is usually negatively reflected in an interaction, whether with other people, or in obtaining romantic relationship, or in maintaining social relationships of the marriage couple. Acceptance of disability by the nondisabled partner was the process that in the case of relations already established the existence of a disability, preceded by the experience of the partners of people with disabilities whether in the profession or family. As an important external assumption for working relationship we see the support of the family and of social environment. The actual relationship is positively reflected in the quality of life of women with disabilities and the need for physical care, without a disability was rated as obvious and normal. The basis for a marital partner was a functioning effective communication, including instant solutions to conflicts. Negative determinant of marital functioning in Slovakia were the social and physical barriers perceived by partners.
Conclusion
Based on the findings from abroad research and based on our pilot study focused on marital and partner relationships, we believe that the successful implementation of our research project could be a suitable material for social workers working with people with disabilities and their spouses. According to the fact that this issue is rarely discussed in Slovakia, its complex processing could help social workers to understand the issues better and then help to select an appropriate intervention.

Asst.

Predložený zborník vedeckých prác prezentuje výsledky výskumov interných i externých študentov doktorandského štúdia ako i mladých vedeckých pracovníkov zo slovenských a zahraničných univerzít. Špecifikum tohto zborníka spočíva v uverejnení ich obsahov v cudzích jazykoch, čím autori preukázali schopnosť komunikovať i v medzinárodnom prostredí.

Práca Sprachkompetenz in der Wissenschaft /Language Competence in the Science je zborníkom vedeckých prác. Zborník Sprachkompetenz in der Wissenschaft /Language Competence in the Science preto po odstránení preklepov a chýb odporúčam k publikovaniu.

The conference "Language competencies in Science" brings a beneficiary space for sharing of scientific findings of PhD. candidates and young researchers. Contributions set a heterogenic group of scientific findings from fields of Social Work, Public Health, Nursing and Laboratory Medicine. Majority of articles proves appropriate scientific level by using relevant both qualitative and quantitative methods and approaches. I am glad to conclude rising level of scientific competencies of PhD candidates and young researchers at our department that creates a high potential for future development of all mentioned fields of science
