Truailliú

Bhí trácht go minic ar thruailliú. Luadh imní maidir le truailliú aibhneacha, truailliú na farraige, truailliú an aeir agus na farraige de bharr Sellafield agus go mór mhór truailliú de bharr trácht feithiclí.
Fadhbanna de bharr tógála agus forbartha

Tá cuid de na príomhfhadhbanna a eascraíonn ón tógáil agus ón bhforbairt luaite cheana féin – na fadhbanna a bhaineann le easpa talamh féarach agus áiteanna súgartha. Bhí an-imní mar gheall ar leagan chrainnte agus gan tuilleadh crainnte a bheith á gcur. Luadh imní freisin mar gheall ar chláir thógála fhairsinge i sráidbhailte beaga agus mar gheall ar ionaid dramhaíle. Luadh chomh maith an fhadhb maidir le tithe gan chónaí iontu.

Léirítear an réimse tuairimí i roinnt sleachta as na litreacha
I don’t like wasting paper, although sometimes I have to because of the fee to recycle paper. This fee is two pounds for one black bag of paper, now say if I wanted to bring three black bags of paper to the recycling bank it would all cost six pounds and that is almost two weeks money of mine gone just because I want to recycle paper. I would love for this to change.

Tourists say that Ireland is famous for all the green grass and the fresh air. Over the past few years I have noticed a big change in this. Soon there will be no green left because of all the building going on. I used to love going for long walks in the convent if I was upset, and then the nuns couldn’t afford to pay for the land and now I’ve nowhere to go for walks when I’m upset and I’m having a hard year.

I am very disappointed at the amount of housing estates and new roads being built in the country. It is ridiculous. OK so our bloodstock, lifestock etc. are doing brilliant at the moment, but for how long?? It might not happen in the next 10 years or even 50, but later in the future of Ireland I bet there will be hardly any land or fields left for our animals, e.g. my family have been trying to buy an acre of land beside the house for grazing for a pony, but instead it is being sold for housing. And my Granny’s field was taken as the Council used it for a road. This means I will never be able to own my own pony as there will be no land.

I live on a farm and the government is taking our neighbours land to put factories on it. It will make an awful mess at our farm and I won’t be able to cycle my bike on the road anymore because it will be too busy. I love living on a farm but sometimes the boys in my class call me farm boy, my mum says I am very lucky to live on a farm and not to take any notice of the others.

The worst thing though is the litter, everywhere is so dirty. My friends throw litter and they don’t see that it is wrong. We should learn more about the environment and keeping it safe for the future.
In Dublin city centre everywhere you go you can see rubbish all over the streets. It looks terrible and it ruins the atmosphere. It is also unhygienic and dangerous to touch the rubbish and broken glass bottles. You can get various diseases and infections just from touching the rubbish and broken bottles on the streets.

At the moment the government wants to build a square in the villaois. They also want to build factories and a sewaois plant (YUK). It will make our villaois stink. Our villaois is quite small and it will be turned into a small town. They also want to build a retirement villaois. At the moment they are having a meeting at the clubhouse. Nobody wants it and they are starting a petition. But the government are just ignoring it all.

Réiteach na bhFadhbanna

Moladh roinnt bealaí le fadhb an bhruscair agus an tsalachair a leigheas. Athchúrsáil an réiteach ba mhinicí a moladh. Bhí leanbh amháin nach mba léir dó stuaim a bheith le athchúrsáil a bheith chomh daor agus nach meallfaí leanaí (ná daoine fásta, glactar leis) lena úsáid mar réiteach. Tugadh staitisticí le béim a chur ar a laghad úsáidte a bhaintear as athchúrsáil sa tír seo i gcomparáid leis an nGearmáin.
Bhí cuid mhaith moltaí ann maidir le scéimeanna athchúrsála, ina measc moladh a bhí saothraithe go mion maidir le scéim deonach i gceantair bheaga.
Moladh go láidir úsáid níos fearr a bhaint as maoir bhruscair agus na dlíthe maidir le bruscar a chur i bhfeidhim. Moladh go mbeadh ar dhaoine a mbéarfaí orthu ag caitheamh bruscair obair phobail a dhéanamh.
Bhí tuairimí éagsúla maidir leis an bhfeachtas póstaeirí ar na bóithre isteach go Corcaigh agus go Baile Átha Cliath a deir Welcome to Cork/Dublin….., excuse the litter.
Nithe eile a moladh:

  • Crainnte a chur agus go mór mhór nuair a leagtar crainnte

  • Sellafield a dhúnadh

  • Daoine a bheith ag taisteal i gcarranna a chéile

  • Forbairt a dhéanamh ar charranna leictreacha nó ar rudaí eile ionas nach mbeadh peitreal/díosal á úsáid mar bhreosla

  • Seachtain Náisiúnta na Siúlóide le tabhairt ar dhaoine a gcuid carranna a fhágáil sa bhaile

  • Feachtas Rialtais ionas gur fearr an tuiscint a bheadh ag daoine ar a gcúram féin maidir leis an timpeallacht.

Cé leis beart a dhéanamh?

Ba spéisiúil an réimse tuairimí a bhí ann maidir le cé ar a bhfuil an cúram beart a dhéanamh le fadhb an bhruscair/na truaillithe a leigheas. Bhí duine a d’éiligh ar an Aire Hanafin lá glantacháin a eagrú i gceantar amháin agus daoine eile a thug dúshlán na ndaoine fásta, agus na ndaoine óga iad féin, cúram pearsanta a ghlacadh maidir lena gceantar féin ó thaobh glantacháin de agus stopadh ag caitheamh bruscair iad féin. Tríd is tríd, b’fhacthas gur fadhb le réiteach ag na húdaráis den chuid is mó a bhí ann, cé go raibh go leor a d’éiligh ar dhaoine a gcion féin a dhéanamh. Léiríonn na sleachta seo a leanas an cás:

Everyone complains about how dirty we are and that we should do something about it but I don’t see anyone trying to do anything. Also, the traffic and pollution are really bad and again, people are saying we must change the system but I doubt if any of them are willing enough to give up their car.

Now they can comment on the litter as much as they like and the politicians can promise and smile into the camera as much as they like but it is time we stop talking and start the action. Now I know you cannot stand up in the middle of nowhere and decide to dedicate the rest of your life to picking up litter, but have you heard the saying ‘every little counts’.

  1. Meas, Freagracht agus cead cainte

Tá tionchar ag na ceisteanna agus na hábhair ar fad a tarraingíodh anuas go dtí seo ar óige na ndaoine a thagair dóibh. Chomh maith leis na nithe sin, labhair na rannpháirtithe ins na seisiúin chomhairle éagsúla maidir le roinnt gnéithe dá gcleachtadh a mbíonn an-tionchar acu ar a n-óige. Ina measc sin bhí siad seo a leanas:

  • Dearcadh dhaoine fásta ar leanaí agus daoine óga – ceist measa

  • Saoirse agus freagracht

  • Cluas a thabhairt dá dtuairimí
