Works of art are successful when using elements or art and principals of design in the artistic process. This will help the artist to better communicate ideas in the work of art. When creating works of art, you can include meaning which makes a statement to your viewer about social or cultural issues. You can create subject matter in works of art by applying principals of design. For example, using geometric shapes communicates a different idea or message as opposed to using natural shapes. It is important to brainstorm and plan before creating a work of art. Just like writing a paper, you want to research, reflect, brainstorm and plan. Craftsmanship is a very important part of having a successful work of art. Works of art often have meaning and are meant to relay a message to the viewer. The artist can accomplish communicating meanings, ideas, exc. by using various techniques. An artist can apply subjects, symbols and ideas in their artworks to comment or solve a problem that our community is facing in daily life.

Supplies and equipment: Water based ink, Image, baking soda, dish soap, brayers, items to create texture and shapes, glue, rolling pin, tape, paper.

Safety Issues: Little to none. Be careful to not ingest any ink.

	Motivation: Anticipatory Set What is the print style called that was demonstrated last class? What is the best way to clean up water based inks? When laying down the paper for a trace monotype should you lay your hand down on the paper while you trace? Why or why not? What are some ways that you can relay a message or idea to your audience through your artwork? TTW give a brief review demo before students begin work. TTW remind students how to properly handle materials and clean up. TTW walk around assisting students and answering any questions. TTW have students properly clean up and dispose of leftover ink. Closure: What are some ways that you can relay a message or idea to your audience through your artwork? What is the most commonly used tool in printmaking? What is it used for? How often can you layer on top of trace monotypes?	Trace monotypes The best way to clean water based inks is with dish soap and baking soda. You should not touch anything on the paper unless it is where you are tracing because it will ink the paper. You can relay a message or idea to your audience through your artwork by using elements of art and principals of design. TSW ask any questions they may have while watching the demo. Students will be review how to properly lay a slab of ink and how to handle materials. TSW begin working on their trace monotype. TSW clean up their work station and properly dispose of any left over ink. You can relay a message or idea to your audience through your artwork by using elements of art and principals of design. The brayer is the most commonly used tool in printmaking. You can layer on top of trace monotypes as many times as you would like.
