CHURCH IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN
EUROPE
Next week we will take up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. This collection supports Catholic organizations that provide affordable shelter and train seminarians in a region that still struggles from the effects of Soviet rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the region. Please give generously next week.
MANY THANKS TO ALL
The St. Catherine Women's Group wishes to thank all those who made the SOUPER BOWL a great success. Thank you to parishioners and friends who attended, and all who worked during this delicious soup lunch. Thanks to our favorite local restaurants who donated soups, and desserts and our retail and wholesale vendor/friends who provided desserts, salad, beverages and supplies. Thanks to our parish Boy Scouts and Knights of Columbus for assisting. Due to the success of this event, a sizable donation to Christian prison ministries will be made.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL SUPPORT
St. Catherine Parish through the generous support of the parishioners and parents, maintains a dynamic school of which we are very proud. The parish subsidizes families who are registered with a "supported student tuition rate." The minimal criteria for support includes:
-
Registration as members of St. Catherine Parish
-
Contributor of record in the parish (envelope users)
-
Active participation at weekend Masses and in the life of the parish.
All three criteria must be met and verified with Fr. Paul's signature and the parish seal affixed to each Supported Student Form.
FEAST OF ST. BLAISE
Raised as a Christian in a rich family, Saint Blaise became a bishop at a young age. In a vision, God appeared to him and told him to flee. To avoid persecution, he left his town and lived as a hermit in a cave. Wild animals visited and he healed any that were sick and wounded. He was later found and captured but while imprisoned, cured a boy choking on a fish bone. He was ordered to be killed for refusing to renounce his faith and love of God. We celebrate the feast of St. Blaise on February 3. While we invoke St. Blaise for his protection against any physical ailment of the throat, we should also ask his protection against any spiritual ailment-profanity, cursing, unkind remarks, detraction or gossip. St. James reminds us, "If a man who does not control his tongue imagines that he is devout, he is self-deceived; his worship is pointless" (1:26) and later, "We use [the tongue] to say, 'Praised be the Lord and Father'; then we use it to curse men, though they are made in the likeness of God. Blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. This ought not to be, my brothers!" (3:9-10). Therefore, may St. Blaise protect us from all evil, physical and spiritual, which may attack the throat.
ST. CATHERINE SCHOOL NEWS

Alyssia has been invited to the chapter meeting on Tuesday, February 10 at 2 p.m. to read her essay and to celebrate with them.
Sr. Janet came to visit the students and from all accounts, she enjoyed her day. She prayed with the children and read to them, too. She ate lunch with the teachers and staff. She is definitely welcome to come and visit anytime. God bless you, Sister!
The children at St. Catherine School know how important it is to give back. There is never a time when we are blessed that we do not pay it forward. Families in Transition needed our help and once again, the children and their families went beyond expectations. Children collected over 150 books, 100 pair of gloves, 200 bars of soap, 100 winter hats, 150 toothbrushes, nearly 200 canned goods, and many mittens. May these families find support from St. Catherine School as they transition.

Our hope is for the group to be fun, promote socialization and do good works for our community as well as our Parish. In our upcoming meeting, we plan to brainstorm our agenda for next year so this meeting will be an excellent opportunity to bring forth your ideas. We meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 10 in the conference room at the school. Please use the Hemlock Street entrance.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN
This campaign is made up of three components: Prayer and fasting, constant vigil and community outreach. Launched in Texas in 2004 it has spread internationally with 625,000 volunteers, 9,500 lives saved and 59 abortion centers closed. The local team is planning the campaign from February 18 through March 28. Daily peaceful prayer vigils will be held from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on the public sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood, Pennacook St., Manchester. Faithful believers are praying that these efforts will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our community. Hour captains are needed in order to ensure that all 40 days are covered in prayer. All that is required is to commit to one or two hours and then invite 2 or 3 people per hour (family, friends and church members) to participate in a prayerful vigil. Please call Joan 487-2752 for more information. Visit: www.40daysforlife.com/Manchester and follow us on facebook or twitter.
