Advanced content Management


Oromia Portal Content Management System has several optional advanced features which are:

  • Structured content

  • Displaying structured content via a template

  • Displaying content on a schedule

  • Removing content on a schedule

  • Reviewing content on a schedule

  • Tagging Content

  • Making your content available via RSS feeds

Structure

Structure is an XML document describing the elements that may be contained in an article. Elements may be basic types (e.g., text, text field, text area, image) or complex types meant to be manipulated by a template (e.g., boolean, single selection list, multiple selection list).

Structures provide the basic building blocks of the Web Content system and are normally created before Templates or Web Content.

Template

T
emplate is a Velocity or XSL document which defines the layout of a structure. It is typically attached to structures. A Template takes the building blocks of the Structure and lays out the content via Velocity or XSL. For example, a Template can do one of the following:


      1. Creating a Structure and Template


Creating a Structure or a Template is very similar to creating Web Content. You first need to be logged in using your username and password.

  1. Hover your mouse over the dock now, from the many links click the Control Panel.

  2. Navigate to the Control Panel.

  3. Under the Content heading, select the Web Content.

  4. Select the Structures or Templates tab

  5. Add Structure or Add Template.

Create a Structure

  1. Click on the Structures tab.

  2. Click Add Structure a form which looks like figure 4.10 will appear.

    et the ID to CMS-STRUCTURE-ONE and the name to CMS Structure One. Populate the description.


  4. Click Add Row 3 times. Populate as follows

    ou can configure the structure this way and click the Save when you finish

reate a Template


  1. Within the Structures listing, click on Actions -> Add Template button on the far right of the row with CMS-STRUCTURE-ONE.

  2. Set the ID to CMS-TEMPLATE-ONE and the name to CMS Template One. Populate the description.

  3. Make sure the language is XSL and click Launch Editor.

  4. Select all of the existing content in the editor and delete it.

  5. Copy and paste the contents of the template.xsl file from the advanced-cms-1 directory.

  6. Click Update and click Save.


      1. Categorization and Scheduling web content.


In Oromia portal you can categorize content by it type, category or tag. In addition you can also schedule a given content to be displayed by giving it a display day and also to expire by giving it expired day. In order to categorize and/or schedule a given web content first add the web content, see section 4.1.1 of Adding Web Content to add web content.

fter displaying the web content addition form, which looks like figure 4.12, we will see how to add a web content using tag and category. On the right side of figure 4.12 you see that there are Form and Presentation, Workflow, Categorization and Schedule which we are going to use for the categorization and scheduling web content

      1. Categorization Web Content


To categorize a web content first expand the Categorization which is found on the right side of Add Web Content Form. Within Categorization you will find Type, Categories, Tags and Searchable.

Type: There are about six choices in this combo box. Selecting one of these types will help you to easily post web content by its type. For example, if you are adding news, then when you add the content choose the category type News.

Categories: selecting the Select Categories button will let you choose categories you have created. You need to create categories first in order to use this option. To create categories:

  • Go to Content in the Control Panel and select Tags. The Tags form, which looks like figure 4.13, will appear on the right side of the screen.

  • Select the categories tab and Add Category.

Tags: allows you to add a tag for a given web content. Adding a tag to web content will help you to easily display the content, especially to display it in asset publisher.

Searchable: if you check this check box, then the web content can easily be accessed using the search portlet.

When you finish selecting your selection, enter the content and click the Save, Save and Continue, and Save and Approve.

        1. Scheduling Web Content

To schedule a web content first expand the Schedule which is found on the right side of Add Web Content Form. Within Scheduling you will find Display Date, Expiration Date, Never Auto Expire, Review Date, and Never Review.

Display Date: let’s you enter the date the web content to be displayed.

Expiration Date: let’s you enter date the web content to be expired.

Never Auto Expire: checking this box will let the web content never to be expired.

Review Date: let’s you to enter the date the web content to be reviewed.

Never Review: checking this box will let the web content never to be reviewed.

When you finish selecting the date’s, enter the content and click the Save, Save and Continue, and Save and Approve.
