Varuna award

Procedure regarding submission of particulars and recommendation – A recommendation for the award may be made to the Director General of Shipping, Mumbai by the Master of a Ship in which Indian seamen are engaged through the owners of the ship. It may also be by the owner of a ship on his own initiative. It shall accompanied by a completed narration of all circumstances leading to the performance of the act of velour in question.

   The date of birth of the person concerned;

   His qualifications, experience and record of service;

   The accounts of eye witness, if any, of the specific act calling for recognition, should be furnished to the extent possible.

   If the award is to be made posthumously, the name and address of the legal heirs/representatives of the deceased will also be needed
