IMAGE ANALYSIS FOR Α AND Β SIALON CERAMIC WITH YB₂O₃ ADDITIVE

This project shows an image analysis to detect α phase and β phase from α and β SiAlON ceramic with Yb₂O₃ additives acquired by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The α phase appears as gray grains while the β phase appears in the image as black grains. The images were provided by Anadolu University Materials Science and Engineering Department.

The steps for this analysis are: i) Level adjustment of image, ii) Threshold analysis for α and β phases, iii) Labeling the image, and iv) Determining percentages of α and β phases of SiAlON via area measurements.
