Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
We will get to know songs and the cultures they come from through learning and singing them together. Each participant will bring songs from his or her original and new homeland to teach to others from other countries. We will talk about what these songs mean to us and what they say about our homelands and their people. You don’t have to be able to read music; we learn the songs by singing together, the most natural way in the oral tradition. We will also learn to use our voices more strongly, firmly, subtly and convincingly, without strain or stress, so that we can feel more at ease and make ourselves heard in the many everyday situations where we have to assert ourselves (speaking in front of a group, at work and in the neighbourhood) and take a more active part in our community. Two experienced breathing, speech and voice trainers will lead a varied and enjoyable programme of movement and voice exercises that will teach us a lot about the power and beauty of our voices. We will see and hear our progress by recording ourselves on video and audio, and with a computer-assisted voice analysis programme. We will also work on ‘stage fright’ and learn exercises that help us use our nervousness constructively. We will live and work together in a friendly seminar house next to a wood on the edge of Hannover. To celebrate we will invite guests and acquaintances to a ‘voice café’ concert, but our main purpose is to enjoy our own and each other’s voices and learn a lot about each other and with each other.

A lesson on the inner critique will tell us how to coach and support ourselves. We will learn how to listen deeply, and how to give and receive feedback. We will learn about modern tools for conflict-resolution and non-violent-communication. We will learn to mutually support each other with simple coaching techniques. We will experience world cafe and open space as settings for participatory and self-organized active citizenship. We will visit a regional citizens' initiative for an exchange on cultural differences in participatory citizenship. We will learn more about living in the self-organized ecovillage of Sieben Linden.
