We are targeting this workshop on learners from local communities that want to step up in conflicts in their local community with the purpose of giving everyone a voice, nurturing diversity and stimulating dialogue and understanding. The learners should preferably have a background in a ‘group’ that is currently underrepresented in their local community work and will have to shortly demonstrate that in their application. But also other interested will be accepted.
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Monday: Arrival and welcoming
Tuesday: Introduction to course, theoretical introduction to conflict dissolving
Wednesday: Appreciation and listening, facilitating dialogue about the conflict
Thursday: Exploring exceptions, resources and future hopes and dreams
Friday: Applying it all to mediation and work with teams and groups in the community
Saturday: Bringing it home; supporting each other on challenges in applying approaches at home
Sunday: Departure.
The workshop will consist of a mix of theoretical inputs, concrete exercises, group discussions, work on real life cases as well as follow-up. The participants will be working on their own conflict cases from their local community and on how to apply the conflict management approaches to these.

Social Innovation in Europe: dealing with conflict and diversity

Adults, 18+ looking to expand their skills in dealing with social innovation and willing to tackle issues such as social exclusion, diversity and conflict in European context. Participants will include those committed to personal development, citizens looking for skills and inspiration to shape their active civic engagement, and those interested professionally in Critical Mass’ methodology.
The participant can be a volunteer and seeking for a way to become more actively involved in the civil society and socially engaged in their relevant country. We are especially looking for adults who are socio-economically disadvantaged or socially excluded, for example someone from a minority or immigrant background. Also, adults who think that ICT developments are either too complex or not designed for them to use while becoming active in civic engagement are welcome to apply. Moreover, for adults who are already involved in these issues and want to develop their skills in the aforementioned issues can apply. The participant must be open to learn and to help others learn, to be able to share experiences and feel comfortable as a team player. A good understanding of the English language is required.

Critical Mass offers you an exiting program. Together with a group of adult participants from all over Europe you will become Social Innovators. With the use of experiential tools we will formulate a practical vision of life in Europe. On the basis of that vision we will tackle relevant social issues such as social exclusion, diversity and conflict. Then we will move into our social laboratory where we will learn about the work at Critical Mass. We will do fieldwork in Dutch society and design tools for social interventions. Finally, we will understand how to market our tools. Throughout the workshop we will stay connected with online platforms where we share our thoughts, ideas and tools.

Day 1 Arrival. Introduction of the programme, introduction and expectations of participants and staff, reflection on own learning process, working with learning diary
Day 2 What is recognition? What is non formal learning? Introduction of terms, background information about European programs and policies, transfer to own learning environment as volunteer
Day 3 Recognition on personal level: what are my competences, how can I describe the competences, why would I like to have external recognition, how to get external recognition.
Day 4 Recognition on the level of the organization: what can my organization do to support the recognition of my learning outcomes
Day 5 Overview of existing tools. Evaluation and dissemination. Departure.
