The “Majolica Painting in Portuguese Tile: Cultural European Heritage” is a Workshop designed by an expert in restoration, member of ES ASSOCIAÇÃO-ENERGIA SUSTENTÁVEL and responsible for artistic programs for adults (ceramics, painting, wool dolls and storytelling).

In a countryside environment, an expert in tile restoration facilitates a learning programme about Majolica Painting in Portuguese Tile, underlining the European influence over a major artistic expression of Portuguese identity, designed for non-expert learners. Artistic sessions are dedicated to experiment and create an individual tile project, based on 4 painting techniques (free-hand, “sgraffito”, stencil and perforated paper), to be exhibited as part of a multinational panel, simulating Europe reality. Cultural tours and study visits have the purpose of giving adult learners the possibility to question, debate and compare cultural and artistic aspects, exchanging ideas and concepts and gather inspiration for the group project.

The aim is to merge participants into simple painting techniques using basic processes, easy to be multiplied and disseminated within their home organizations and their daily life, as well as integrating participants? Competencies and knowledge.

The workshop is based on the 4 pillars of education (“The treasure Within” Report, UNESCO): Learning to know

Learning to do

Learning to live together and with others

Learning to be

Learning about LLL and its possibilities in EU context;

Individual and peer-to-peer learning during collective games and during project construction, interpersonal relationship, innovative and team skills when applying concepts and ideas – a collective panel simulating Europe collective heritage;

Every guided tour has a participative methodology - video and photo recording, cultural diary with individual opinions, thematic discussions about compared culture and selection of “images” and ideas - to be integrated in the final project and for product dissemination on web.

Participants will have the joy and benefit of becoming acquainted with a foreign country, interacting with local residents and exploring Portuguese rural values and traditions, and enjoy immediate contact with participants from other countries.

Yoga and Tai-Chi moments are intended to expand self-development and help to relax during the day. Some leisure time activities are foreseen. ICT competences development through computer and internet use during preparation of dissemination results and web platform (text, images) are also part of the learning activities.

eWork for Active Seniors: e-work as a tool to promote active ageing and sustainable behaviour in competitive digital society

Subject area: Intergenerational learning / learning in later life / senior citizens

New technologies, ICT

Basic skills for adult learners
Working language(s): EN
Target Group + Translation:
European Seniors and adult learners that intent to use e-work as a pathway to improve their knowledge and competences (primarily disadvantaged adult learners);

Any individual who is interested in developing his or her competencies that are highly required in the world of globalization.

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
It has been proposed by the European Commission that 2012 would be elected as the "European Year for Active Ageing". The main aim of this initiative is helping to create better job opportunities and working conditions for the growing numbers of older people in Europe, by helping them take an active role in society and encouraging healthy ageing. The increase of empowerment and of social participation of European Seniors in today´s society is especially relevant as there are more and more learning opportunities that seek to meet the challenge of including older people in the information and communication society. These training opportunities are mostly in traditional learning settings and less frequently in a context of mutual support where older people work in a self-directed way. And yet seniors could be one of the target groups who would profit most from online learning opportunities, if appropriate e-learning scenarios are developed for meeting the needs of older people and dealing with some of their constraints. E-learning and e-work connect people overcoming mobility constraints and social isolation. These two learning and working methods combine sustainability, adaptability, interactivity and above all, usability. E-learning and e-working can be seen as the answer to Senior´s problems and as an opportunity for intergenerational experience sharing and knowledge.
This workshop aims to introduce and to prepare Senior European citizens to e-learning and to e-working by presenting and working around several important topics such as active ageing, sustainability and digital competencies. It will gather a group of 25 English-speaking participants from 7 European countries and it will stimulate activities and discussions about how e-work can contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive society. The model of this workshop consists of bringing together a group of European citizens to work collaboratively and exchange ideas, knowledge and best practices.
