Traditional Islamic Arts

Target Group + Translation:
Adults interested in Islamic arts, Arabic language and Turkish culture, history, geography and Turcology studies. The staff of associations and foundations offering services to Turkish originated European citizens living in Europe and desiring to learn different things about Turkey and Islamic arts. Admirers of Turkish language and Turkish culture. All adult people interested in visual arts and different cultures.
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
The participants will learn Turkish traditional and Islamic arts; Marbling (Ebru), Islamic calligraphy (hat sanatı) and Islamic Ornamentation (tezhip). They will have the chance to practice these arts in company with experienced artists.

The Programme:

DAY 1 - Getting to know each other, general information about the programme and organization, to get to know opinions of each other about Islamic arts and Turkish culture. Presentation of Islamic and traditional Turkish arts.

DAY 2 - Presentation of equipment to make Marbling and teaching its basic skills. Practising marbling.

DAY 3 - Presentation of necessary equipment for making Ornamentation Art and teaching its basic skills. Practising of Ornamentation Art.

DAY 4 - Presentation of necessary equipment for making Islamic Calligraphy and teaching its basic skills and practising.

DAY 5 - Practising of these three arts (Marbling, Ornamentation, Calligraphy). Evaluations, discussions and getting the reflections. DAY 6 - Exhibition of the works done during the project and departure.

- Preparation techniques of Ottoman shoes.

- Introducing features of the equipment used in making Ottoman shoes.

- Introducing the materials.

- Cutting the proper leather pieces suitable for their shoe sizes.

- Preparation of the sole leather fit for their shoe numbers.

- Techniques of making saddler sewing.

- Techniques of making ornamentation.

- Combination of the sole to the shoe-upper.

- Trying on the products.

- Exhibiting the products.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE WITH CREATING TRADITIONAL MUSIC & DANCE BAND

Participants who prone to music and dance and likes different cultures and folklore.

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Day 1 - Arrival Day.

Day 2 - Definition of "Seymen", traditional culture and music. Discussion session on different cultures and traditions. Selecting the music that the learners will play with traditional musical instruments. First steps to learn Seymen Dance (Traditional Turkish dance) with selected music.

Day 3 - Seymen Dance Practices. Learning musical notes and become acquainted with the traditional musical instruments. Start to play music with these instruments.

Day 4 - Seymen Dance Practices. Playing the music with traditional instruments.

Day 5 - Seymen Dance Practices. Playing the music with traditional instruments.

Day 6 - Playing the music and dance as a "Seymen". Last rehearsals for the demonstration.

Day 7 - Creating the Music and Dance Band with the participants. Wearing traditional costumes. Demonstration at an old Ankara House with traditional costumes. Participants will play the music and dance as "Seymen".

Day 8 - Departures.

Notes in Music, Adults in Europe

Target Group + Translation:
Female adults of any age group interested in creative intercultural exchange and personal growth via traditional dances and music. Unemployed women from low income groups living an isolated life at the outskirts of big cities who never found a chance to contact European people and culture.
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
DAY 1 - Introduction of scope of workshop and program details. An introduction to European culture. Introductions of participants about their own country’s cultural elements. An introduction to Turkish culture. Theoretical introduction of step studies for various Turkish folkloric dances.

DAY 2 - A presentation on the importance of cultural learning in EU cultural learning and exchange practises. Introductory step studies for “Atabarı” (a kind of folkloric dance, peculiar to Artvin City locality). Practising basic steps of Atabarı with folkloric music. Practising basic choral works for Atabarı dance. Practising Atabarı with folkloric music and choral performance.

DAY 3 - Group communication studies. Personal communication studies. Practising studies on Atabarı dance with folkloric music and choral performance. Cultural visits to Ankara Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, Historical Beypazarı spot and to the Museum of Ethnography in Ankara and accompanying presentations during the visits about Turkish folkloric culture.

DAY 4 - Evaluation meeting. Basic introductions of participants about their own country’s folkloric dances. Repetition of Atabarı dance with music learned and choral performance.

DAY 5 - Advanced step studies for Atabarı dance. Advanced musical studies for Atabarı dance. Advanced choral practise for Atabarı dance. Practising Atabarı dance with music learned and choral performance.

DAY 6 - Design studies on staging “a live folkloric dance show”. Choreography studies of the dance performance. Preparation of materials and elements of the Show. Rehearsals of the dance performance.

DAY 7 - Rehearsals of the dance performance. Live dance performance in Karapürçek Women Training and Culture Center.
