Adults interested in art education. The workshop is targeted at individuals with the motivation for learning, sharing and self-development.

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Ha-Ha is A-ha! – Grundtvig Workshop brings together adult learners from various backgrounds to learn about art education and how to use humour and visual improvisation in different working environment. Workshop is suitable for people who want to get their first international learning experience in tolerant and creative way. One of the aims is to learn how to accept mistakes and fail happily in our private, but especially in working lives. Workshop aims to bring tolerant attitude more closer to participants and themes will be handled in creative way. Art education, humour and improvisation can be usefully used in various workig fields and backgrounds of the participants and that is why cross-sectoral collaboration between the art educators and international participants is needed. Workshop will give tools to think outside the box in the group situations and practical tools for creative approach at work/life in general. During the workshop participants will learn how to handle group situations in creative way and how to use humour in their work. Participants will use drama, group work, independent tasks, physical exercises, improvisation and self-reflection as their tools. Creativity, group discussions, simulation activities, Finnish nature, self-reflection, making new friends and “learning with a non-formal twist” are the key elements of the workshop.Lectures on art education and theory of humour are part of the training also.Teachers of the course are professional art educators from Helsinki, Finland.

Finnish ways to recycle textiles

Target Group + Translation:
European citizens interested in handicrafts and recycling textiles in traditional techniques as well as new innovative methods and materials. Priority is given for the unemployed, citizens under the thread of being excluded from society, senior citizens, immigrants and members of ethnic minorities.

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
The course offers ideas and teaches new techniques of weaving, which have been used in recycling traditionally in Finland. The participants also learn new innovative techniques and materials such as video tape weaving and working on recycled felt into products. The participants work in two workshops in which they can work according to their interests. In the workshop on textile weaving, the participants learn the living Finnish tradition of weaving rags from old clothes. They will also weave bag textile from videotape and thread together, as well as interior design products from recycled paper. In the sewing workshop the participants will work on recycled textile materials into new products, for instance, by sewing, embroidery and needle felting old knit garments. In addition, we will use recycled felt made from recycled textiles for making bigger and smaller bags and pillows, and make different patterns on them. In addition to the workshops, we will visit different companies making products from recycled materilas: GlobeHope, Edelcity and Kiva Shop. We will familiarize ourselves with second hand shops, handicrafts and the Finnish way of life. The participants learn to know other participants’ cultures as each participant can bring an item or recycling idea from their own country. The items and ideas as well as the workshop products will be published on the website.

Exercise and Learn in the Nature Environment

Target Group + Translation:
Elderly people (60+). On excursions special attention is paid to arrangements which enable people to move about such as the suitable speed of moving and the use auxiliary devices if needed. Because the workshop is partly based on producing and using photo material, it is possible for people even with a poorer knowledge of English to active participation in the workshop. The participants are expected to have a European Health Insurance Card and personal travel insur-ance.
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Arrival day: 19th May Getting together, introducing the town of Kouvola and the aims and pro-gramme of the workshop. Presentation of the assignments given to the participants beforehand.

20th May. Lecture: The Nature of Kymenlaakso. Urban and natural environment in Kouvola – participants’ own observations. Moving in natural surroundings: instruction in Nordic walking in Kettumäki Folk Park and water gymnastics, European evening, discussion and evaluation of the first day.

21st May Moving in natural surroundings, Lecture: Everyman’s rights. Wilderness nature: walking and observing nature in Repovesi National Park, rowing a “church boat” as a form of exercise, in the evening sauna bathing, discussion and evaluation of the day.

22nd May Sustainable development, Lecture: Recycling and Disposal of Waste. The condition of waters: the River Kymi and the Gulf of Finland, an excursion along the River Kymi from Kuusankoski to Kotka, discussion and evaluation of the day.

23rd May Lecture: Finland’s Forests. Walking in Heisanharju nature conservation area, observing the condition of forests, visit to the Verla Mill Museum (Unesco World Heritage site), discussion and evaluation of the day.

24th May Natural materials used in handicraft (participants make a souvenir of birch bark etc.). Sustainable development: Lecture on local food, walk along a nature path with a quiz on the things learned, discussion and evaluation of the day. Farewell party with the members of the KuuRet 55+ group.

Departure day: 25th May Final evaluation of the workshop, feedback, certificates, transport to Helsinki, flights back home. Extra programme for those who want to stay another day in Helsinki.
We expect those interested in the workshop to send their application by 20th January 2013.
