IJGD 25327 DO YOUR PART IN EHRINGSHAUSEN Location: Ehringshausen kr. wetzlar Dates: 15/08-30/08/15 Type: ENVI , Age: 16 ans. 14 VOLS WORK: Your team’s help is needed with various tasks in the Ehringshausen community: one task involves renovating the outside grounds of a day care center. A “dirt hill” will be changed. In the city center, an old estate needs to be renovated for the community. Various craftsman tasks need to be done in and out of the building so the community can use it in the near future. If time remains, your group will work with the forester to undertake maintenance tasks in the woods. ACCOMODATION: In a school Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Hessen; Giessen 25 km, Marburg 60 km, Frankfurt 70 km FREE TIME: In Ehringshausen there is a nice pool, and the community is located near the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park. You can visit nearby Wetzlar, a beautiful historic city with the traditional German “Fachwerk” houses. For day trips, Limburg, Frankfurt, and Marburg are perfect. IJGD 15215 ECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY IN THE FOREST Location: Goslar Dates: 15/08-05/09/15 Type: ENVI , Age: 16 ans. 14 VOLS WORK: The forest areas in the Oberharz region are nature preservation and recreational areas. As large, connected forest areas they are important for climate protection. Your team will help with nature and environmental protection tasks, all while doing your part to maintain the habitat of many rare plant and animal species. Tasks will include caring for young trees, keeping bodies of water natural, repairing benches, huts, and hiking signs. You will work in small rotating groups and get a peek into the ecological tasks of a forester. ACCOMODATION: In shared rooms in a hikers’ inn Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Hanover 100 km, Gottingen 70 km FREE TIME: The Harz Region with its caves, mountains, mining museums, and forests is a beloved travel and recreational destination. TERMINAL: Goslar SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - REMARKS: You will work 7.5 hours per day, 4 days a week. Fridays are off days. IJGD 25335 I AM SAILING Location: Gelsenkirchen Dates: 15/08-05/09/15 Type: CONS , Age: 16 ans. 14 VOLS WORK: This camp is aimed at youth who enjoy sailing and manual tasks. The Erich Kaestner Haus has over five sailboats for inland waters, of which three need to have a general overhaul. The boats, so-called “migratory birds” (about 6 meters) need a new coat of paint, as well as small plank and rigging repairs. Together with young people from Gelsenkirchen and experts, your team will undertake these tasks in order to make the boats useable again for the local children and youth. Along with the manual tasks, your team will also learn basic nautical terms. Plenty of trial trips as well as a sailing weekend are part of the itinerary. The main focus of the camp however is the interaction between the volunteers, cultural exchange, and fun! ACCOMODATION: In a large villa Catering: You will cook together with local youth LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: North Rhine-Westphalia; Dortmund 25 km, Cologne 85 km FREE TIME: In the youth center you can play foosball and billiards, as well as listen to and create music. Excursions to local cultural sites such as the “Zeche Zollverein”are planned. In Gelsenkirchen, you will find pools, museums, and bars. Due to its central location in the region, Gelsenkirchen is an ideal starting place for trips to Dortmund, Bochum, Cologne, and Hamburg, as well as to the Netherlands. TERMINAL: Gelsenkirchen SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: You will need a talent for manual tasks and be prepared to work in a group. REMARKS: Youth from Gelsenkirchen will be our guests during work and free time. IJGD 25324 ON THE CELTIC TRAIL Location: Siersburg Dates: 15/08-05/09/15 Type: ARCH , Age: 16 ans. 11 VOLS WORK: The Rehlingen-Siersburg community is located on the triangle formed by Saar, Lothringen, and Luxembourg. It is located in a beautiful area on the Nied River, one of the cleanest in Germany. This camp revolves around the Celts: grave finds indicate that the region was settled by the Celts well before the birth of Christ. In 2003, an IJGD workcamp began to build a Celt house. In another IJGD camp in 2006, a storage house was built as well as a fence. The land was also designed accordingly. Your task this year will be to build a Celtic burial mound near the “Celtic Settlement”. ACCOMODATION: In a gym Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Saarland; 40 km northwest of Saarbrucken, 60 km from Trier, Luxembourg, and Metz FREE TIME: There are plenty of travel opportunities, such as to Saarbrucken, Trier, France, and Luxembourg. Additionally, you can visit a cave in Niedaltdorf, the Roman Museum in Homburg, or the Roman Villa Borg. In Rehlingen there is a bowling arena and a mini golf area. The region is great for hiking and biking. TERMINAL: Siersburg SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: -
TERMINAL: Hildesheim SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requirement: Good English skills are required for the radio workshop REMARKS: There is a 260 Euro extra fee. You must have a good knowledge of English for the theater workshop. You must be able to ride a bike. IJGD 25344 YOUTH CREATES CULTURE Location: Fulda Dates: 22/08-05/09/15 Type: ART , Age: 16 ans. 14 VOLS WORK: The Youth Cultural Factory (Jugendkulturfabrik) is a youth center with a band rehearsal room, sound studio, hip hop and music center, art studio, climbing area, wood workshop, café, and a meeting area with foosball and a legal graffiti wall. Your creative, musical, and artistic abilities are needed here! Please bring dances, music, and recipes from home with you. At the end of camp, there will be a festival where you will present your final projects. The youth center will be open during the camp, so you can meet local youth from the center and work together towards the festival. It is desired that you involve the local youth and do not stick to your team. The workshops will take place in the afternoons, so you will have time in the mornings to do things and work in the workshops from 14:30-18:00. ACCOMODATION: In a school Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group. LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Hesse; Frankfurt 100 km, Wurzburg 100 km, Giessen 100 km FREE TIME: In Fulda, you can swim, shop, visit cafes, and see the theater. The youth center offers plenty of leisure activities and workshops; boredom is not a problem here! Local travel opportunities include Frankfurt, Kassel, Wurzburg, Marburg, Mainz, and excursions to the Roehn. TERMINAL: Fulda SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A knowledge of English is required. A knowledge of German is desired. REMARKS: Alcohol is not allowed in this camp. IJGD 25342 NATURE PRESERVATION IN THE RUHR Location: Wesel Dates: 22/08-12/09/15 Type: ENVI , Type: 16 ans. 12 VOLS WORK: Together with a local organization, the Regionalverband Ruhr, your term will undertake various nature preservation tasks in the Nature Experience Area Uefter Mark. The tasks are very diverse and include building and taking down fences, cleaning streams, and cutting paths free. Additionally, you will cut branches with handsaws, set up protective baskets for larger plants so that the animals do not eat them, and do maintenance work on plants. A further task is removing traffic fences. Since you will be living a scout hut, you will also get to know the work the Boy Scouts do. ACCOMODATION: In a scout hut in Schermbeck Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: North Rhine-Westphalia; Wesel 18 km, Dusseldorf 65 km, Munster 70 km FREE TIME: From Schermbeck, you can hike, bike, and canoe on the Lippe River. In the area you can visit the Colonia Ulpia Traiana, the third largest Roman city north of the Alps and Germany’s largest archeological open-air museum. Cities such as Essen and Dortmund are well worth a visit, as is Munster. The Hanseatic city of Wesel also has lots to offer. TERMINAL: Wesel SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - REMARKS: The tasks may be physically challenging at times. IJGD 15212 NATURE PRESERVATION AND SURVIVAL Location: Bassum Dates: 23/08-05/09/15 Type: ENVI ,STUD , Type: 14 ans. 23 VOLS WORK: If you enjoy being outside in nature, spending your evenings around the bonfire, discovering the forest with peers from all over the world through adventure tasks, and doing practical work in the forest with a forester, then you are in the right place here! The project will take place at the Hahnhorst Forest Educational Center. During the study part of the camp, your team will learn how to navigate in the forest, recognize edible plants, make fire without modern help, and build a night camp out of natural materials. Additionally, you will work together with foresters and forest workers on various nature preservation tasks in the forest, doing your part to improve the habitat of rare plant and animal species. The tasks will be done in the morning (with an early wake up call!), and the survival workshops will take place in the afternoon. ACCOMODATION: In shared rooms at the Forest Educational Center. Your team will help in the center. Catering: Meals will be provided, but your team will help in the kitchen. LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Lower Saxony; about 50 km from Bremen. FREE TIME: Some afternoons will be available to you for free time, where you can take part in activities such as biking, having an international buffet, sitting around the bonfire, going to the swimming pool, etc. One the weekend, a trip to Bremen is well worth it, where you can sightsee and shop. TERMINAL: Spremberg SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Participants under the age of 18 must bring a permission slip from their parents in order to be allowed to swim. The swimming area is unsupervised. REMARKS: Please bring a sleeping bag. IJGD 15214 BE ACTIVE IN THE WOLFSBURG FOREST! Location: Wolfsburg Dates: 29/08-12/09/15 Type: ENVI , Type: 16 ans. 12 VOLS WORK: The Wolfsburg City Forest is a beloved destination for joggers, bikers, walkers, and hikers. It is also a habitat for many, including rare, plant and animal species such as orchids. The forest is also your work site and you will support the forester with various tasks, such as building paths, maintaining recreational areas, and removing invasive, foreign species such as black cherries, that take the space of domestic plants. Of course, you will get a peek into the diverse tasks a forester does as well as the forest ecosystem. Your accommodation is not far from the forest, so you can walk to your work site. ACCOMODATION: In the youth rooms of the Stephanus community, in the Wolfsburg district of Detmerode Catering: Meals will be prepared as a group LANGUAGE: ENGLISH LOCATION: Lower Saxony; Hanover 75 km, Braunschweig 30 km, Magdeburg 65 km FREE TIME: Internationally known Wolfsburg attractions include the castle and art museum, the “car city”, and the VW car museum, the VfL Wolfsburg soccer team, and the “phaeno” science museum. The VW pool is one of the prettiest pools in the region. The St. Stephanus community hosts a youth meet on Thursdays. You can use everything the nearby youth center has to offer in Detmerode.
