簡介123：
萊斯特大學興建於西元1921年，並於西元1957年獲頒皇家憲章。全英國大學排名20的萊斯特大學，學術成績非常優異，更於過去四年獲英國學術評審局頒發優秀等級予所有大學部門。
根據英國高等教育基金會所做的評鑑，萊斯特大學的許多科系在教學及研究上皆有達到極高的績分。其研究領域方面獲得最高分的有生物科學、經濟與社會史、教育、工程、英文、英國當地歷史、藝術史、以及物理與天文學等。
萊斯特大學為因應高等教育逐漸成長之際，提供了高品質的研究所課程與研究設備，以符合高等教育的需求。其亦投資經費改善學生以及教師之住宿環境，以滿足二十一世紀學生的需要。此校一向注重研究生之訓練與研究，並依據不同的學習方法開發了各種不同領域的研究課程。也因此，萊斯特大學儼然成了設有研究所課程的主要知名學府之一，並於1994年成立了六間研究所。每間研究所都有一位副所長來協助學校發展並考核研究所教學成果，以及建立一套專門評鑑研究生素質的方法。
規模：
目前，在校學生總人數約16,000人，其中10%為來自80多個國家的國際學生。教職員人數逼近4,000人。共有四大學院。
大學圖書館由一座主館和兩座分館組成。位於主校區的中央大圖書館(The Central Library)藏書100多萬冊，還藏有縮微膠卷、學位論文和其他專門資料。其它不在主校區內的專業科目系所，則使用二間圖書館分館（the Education Library and the Clinical Sciences Library）。電腦中心為學校的所有學生與員工提供一般性電腦服務，學校里大部分的教學大樓都設有開放式的電腦室。大學擁有30多個體育俱樂部和各種 運動設施，包括兩個體育館、九個網球場、田徑跑道、壁球場、兩個健康與健身俱樂部、舞蹈排練廳、足球場、橄欖球、板球和兜網球。
組織建制：
該校現任的校長為Prof. Sir Peter Williams，為該校第15任校長。
學術特色：
該大學是英國進行課題研究最多的一所學校。在國際上也以其課題覆蓋面廣而著稱，在由高等教育撥款委員會開展的教學與研究評估活動中，萊斯特大學的各個學系均獲得極高的評價，其中生物科學、細胞生理學與藥理學、化學、工程、地質學、物理學與天文學、考古學、教育學、英語、歷史、藝術史、法律、現代語言、政治學與國際關係、社會工作、社會學等專業獲得了最高分。在英國政府2001年做的最近一次大學教學質量評估中，萊斯特大學獲得13個5分。大學的MBA課程得到工商管理碩士協會（AMBA）的認證。在近來來英國大學綜合排名中，萊斯特大學居25位左右。
