2.Objectives to be REACHED:

Full Project overview: WP.2 meets the following key project objective:
Objective 9 – Monitoring and Analysis of Energy Flows: To develop and demonstrate the technologies and mechanisms necessary to monitor and evaluate the energy flows and performance of the communities involved and to contribute to a joint programme of work to establish standards with other Concerto communities. Existing energy assessments of the project areas will be used as benchmarks for monitoring and evaluation of integrated energy options.

3.outcomes of the session:

Chair: INSA-CETHIL (Christophe Ménézo)

Reporter: Univerdad de Zaragossa (Sergio Díaz de Garaio)

  • Detailed discussion between LYON/ZAR experts on monitoring topics

1-ENERGY MONITORING:

Global energy monitoring for the whole quarter (EVZ: Global monitoring of gas consumption, etc…. Analyse global of all public service network. Control of the whole project,.. all will be centralised in a building)

But also critical points as:

-Air flow measurements for different process:

Lyon : one flux (hygro-controlled but which impact on indoor air quality?); double flux ; natural ventilation

Saragosse : one flux (not heat recovery).

-Infiltration flow measurements (fan which is calibrated: delta P= 50 Pa). But behaviour of inhabitants is really important but very hard to evaluate especially for air infiltration.

Enertech has done some measurements in the past such as the detection of the windows opening (not easy to analyse afterwards). Univ. Saragosse has also had some thinking about this subject because is not easy to evaluate the air flow.

-Electricity consumption is important versus heat consumption. Focus has to be done on this energy (around 10 apartments).

Strategy :

Lyon : around 500 apartments : global monitoring

Around 9 apartments monitored for energy consumption, energy use, comfort, …

2-3 apartments for local monitoring (ventilation technics,…)

Saragosse : 5000 apartments

Around 150 monitored apartments: all flux will be monitored (rubbish, water, energy, …)
Should go further for electricity consumption which is a key point. Endesa will provide some data but as anonymous data (no means to know in a specific apartment the energy used by needs hour/hour). UdZ will try to obtain some data but not so easy in regard of the inhabitants agreement. In Lyon it will be tried too but need inhabitants agreement.

2- COMFORT:
Sargosse: 3 zones of temperature and humidity by apartment: Loggia (in order to evaluate the thermal gain), one in the life room and one in a bedroom.
Lyon: identification of some critical apartments. Air velocity? Have to be limited to the main comfort parameters
Inhabitants: to explain them that is not in order to control their behaviour, and so on, … Informative meeting to explain, …
Lyon: air temperature and humidity record for some apartments. Air velocity?
Level of temperature < 28°C not more than 40 hours per year?
To early for Saragosse to evaluate the thermal comfort. More and more pb about active cooling. Spain climate is quite hot and in many areas, this level is over. What is sure is that the comfort level will be better in these buildings than in other of Saragosse area.
In Lyon, this level was a constraint for the program. What will be interesting is to confront numerical investigations and experiments. Some hypothesis have been formulated for simulations (inhabitants behaviour, …). One important think that will be useful is to have measurements without inhabitants in order to have a “zero” (reference) point for the apartments (with different scenarii: heating systems, blinds opened or closed). Calibration of these modelling tools is important and this step should be done in Lyon and in Saragosse. Even without heating systems we can obtain a kind of energy signature of the apartments.
The thermal comfort is a key point in order to avoid further “bad” air conditioning systems. In Saragosse it has been already noticed for some apartments. It will be a critical point for Lyon too. How can we manage to avoid inhabitants to buy such systems? Or to control the integration of cooling systems.
3-Impact of electricity flux injected in the network:

Lyon : Analyse of the impact on the electrical network.

How to design the connexion wires?
Saragosse : 2MW wind turbine + PV modules (Endesa = EDF in France) will follow all transformation. Impact will be analysed
4- Exo sheet concerning the monitoring of one particular zone in Saragosse. In Spain, monitoring has no particular protocol.

In France there is no protocol too.

Energy measurements have to be the same in Lyon and Saragossa.

  • Primary energy level.

  • Define the same criterion. Example: energy consumption /square meter. Which area to choose? Important to choose the indoor surface not external floor surface (depending on insulation level, …)

The new standards in Spain : kWh/m² of indoor floor surface. In the south of Spain, it includes the air condition system (for summer).

In France like in Germany: kWh/m² of outdoor floor surface.

What represents 1 kWh/m² ? Primary energy ?

For the surface : indoor floor area = > OK for Spain and France
We should consider primary energy but also in CO2 emission ?

Conversion coefficient between energy have to be the same. Balance in primary energy will be done and also in a second step a CO2 emission (conversion coeff. not the same between France and Spain…).

Will be interesting to distinguish each energy consumption (electricity, combustion) and to convert each in primary energy as a global indicator.
However each consumption (cooling - electrodevices), has to be identified in order to analyse accurately the design of buildings, … it will be done in each town.

  • Identification of what is common, what is different in respective methodologies of each community

Outcome: Presentation of an action plan to optimize work done under WP2, especially on analytical building monitoring methodologies
Lyon : three level of monitoring

Saragosse : global and also for some apartments

Monitoring process is quite different:

Saragosse :

Administrative and economical gestion (EVZ) made by an external structure (on 5000 apartments)=> all data will be centralised in one place.

All data will be transferred by a numerical network to the control centre. In each apartments there is one box of connexion where the probe are connected.

Lyon : data logger without centralised connection. Somebody will have to be representative of the consortium to collect these data.
