Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

The B.Ed. programme has been designed on the basis of the approved structure under the NCTE Recognition Norms and Procedures, 2014.


PREAMBLE

The Bachelor of Education Programme (B.Ed.) is a professional course that prepares teachers for upper primary or middle level (Classes VI-VIII), secondary level (classes IX-X) and senior secondary level (classes XI-XII).


O. B. Ed. I ELIGIBILITY

  1. Candidates with at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Science/Social Science/Humanities/Commerce or Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55 % marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the programme.

  2. He/She must be a graduate from The M. S. University of Baroda or from any other University recognized as an equivalent for the purpose. He/She must have taken the Bachelor’s Degree in the 10+2+3 or 11+4 pattern.

  3. He/She must have offered English as one of the subjects at the higher Secondary/College or University Level.

  4. Reservation and relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and other applicable categories will be as per the rules of the State Government.

  5. A candidate admitted to the B.Ed. programme shall not do any other course during the same academic year.


O. B.Ed. 2 ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Admission shall be made on the basis of percentage of marks obtained at the graduation level examination and 20% of marks of the percentage of the marks obtainted at the post-graduation level will be added to the graduation marks provided the candidate has obtained the Master Degree in any of the graduation level subjects/ cognate subjects.

Candidates belonging to scheduled caste/scheduled tribe would be given concession of 5 percent marks in the minimum of marks required for admission. In case by allowing 5 percent concession, some seats in the reserved quota remain unfilled , a further relaxation in marks may be given to them in order of merit interse amongst them. (D. O. no. f. 1-2/89(SCT) and No. F. 6-4/82 SCT).

As per SR. No. 19 Dt. 31-01-2000 after one month from the date regular B.Ed. class has started, if there is confirmed drop outs than no more than 10 seats will be filled by practice teaching schools.


O. B.Ed. 3 INTAKE

  • There shall be 100 students admitted. (Two basic units having 50 students in each )

  • Bifurcation of seats :

    • Science stream – 21+21=42

    • Arts and Humanities -21+21=42

    • Commerce -8+8=16

Of the total seats 70 % seats are reserved for M. S. U. Students, 20% seats are reserved for outside M. S. U. within Gujarat Students and 10 % seats are reserved for the outside students.
O. B.Ed. 4 STRUCTURE AND DURATION

The B.Ed. programme shall be of two years duration; that is four semesters which can be completed in a maximum of four years from the date of admission to the programme. The structure is presented below:

O. B.Ed. 5 WORKING DAYS

  • There shall be at least two hundred (200) working days each year, exclusive of the period of admission and examination.

  • The institution shall work for minimum of thirty six hours in a week during which physical presence of all the teachers and B.Ed. student is necessary to ensure their availability for advice, guidance, dialogue and consultation as and when needed.


O. B.Ed. 6 ATTENDANCE

Every candidate must have minimum 80% attendance in Theory Courses and Practicum and 90% attendance in school Internship.


O. B.Ed. 7 MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction shall be primarily English. However, students are permitted to write the examinations in English, Gujarati, Hindi.


O. B.Ed. 8 EXAMINATION FEES

As per the M. S. University Rules.

O. B.ED. 10 SCHEME OF EVALUATION

Indirect grading which is followed in the M. S. University will be adopted in evaluating students. For practicum purpose 100% internal will be followed as per M. S. University rules.

The theory examination will have 30% internal and 70% university examination in which the examiners shall be appointed internally by the university. The Viva-voce examination and Test lesson examination will have both internal and external examiner.
O. B.ED. 11 Viva-voce Test

The board of examiners consisting of three internal and three external (at least two members) shall be appointed by the vice chancellor to hold a viva-voce test of each candidate at the end of SS B.Ed. II (Fourth Semester)


O. B.ED. 12 UPWARD MOVEMENT

As per the M. S. University Rules


Note:

This drafted syllabus was approved by Syndicate on June9, 2015 (Ref. – S. R. No. 36 dtd. 09-06-2015).



The followings are the resolutions:

  • The Vice-voce examination (both at B.Ed. and M.Ed.) will have both internal and external examiner.

  • The B.Ed. Test lesson will have both internal and external examiner.

  • The M.Ed. dissertation will be evaluated by internal and external examiner.

  • All the practical work (both at B.Ed. and M.Ed.) will be internally assessed.
