Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit & Being a Bond Servant
I first want to apologize: I had stated that the Catholics removed the Apocrypha from the Bible but in fact it was the Protestants. Sorry.

The Catholics do not read and teach from the Apocrypha but they have resisted removing it from their Bibles. Almost all protestant denominations (40,000 +) have removed it from their Bibles.

I want to start out with a brief short teaching that someone requested in last weeks offering box. I got a note and don’t know who it is so hopefully they are here. I rarely get to honor a request so quickly but I always try to so please, feel free to put suggestions in the box or give them to me directly at any time and I will do my best to incorporate it into a near future teaching.

The request was for a teaching on “The Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” or the Ruach HaKodesh. This is an important teaching but it is not a long one so it will be combined with another shorter teaching toward the end today. Let’s Open in Prayer

Matthew 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

If there is a sin that can be committed and there is no forgiveness for this sin then I would hope you all agree that we better well know exactly what it is and understand it fully.

In order to do this we are going to have to fully understand a few things about what is being taught here. We are going to take a look at the original language and we MUST look back at the whole context of this situation and what is going on here.

The situation we are speaking about starts in verse 22 so let’s read it.

Matthew 12:22-27

22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Is this not the Son of David?"

Who is the Son of David?

When the kingdom of Israel had been established and the nation was resting during a time of peace, God sent Nathan the prophet to David, to speak these words to him:

II Samuel 7:12-14 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son.”

God’s Covenant with David promised that in the future David’s seed would establish His kingdom forever. This is prophesied in several places throughout the Old Testament like Isaiah 11 verse 1

IS 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

Jesse of course is King David’s father and this is the promise of the Messiah coming forth in the future. Throughout the ages the Torah scholars, Rabbi’s and others all knew that the Son of David referred to the coming Messiah.

So….. when the people started saying

“Is this not the Son of David / HaMashiack?”

You know the Rabbi’s went berserk. It was like someone taking away the Prozac from these guys and they were livid. So this is setting the stage for their rage and anger.
Continuing….

24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons."

25 But Yahshua knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
By whom do your sons cast them out, this refers to their students or disciples. Yahshua is stating the painfully obvious that there excuse is lame and a wild stab in the dark. He casts out demons by Beelzebub was an insane reaction due to their jealousy over how much fame and recognition Yahshua is receiving all over Israel.
He just healed a man that was demon possessed, blind and mute. Not an every day occurrence in Israel. Yahshua responded to them in love and in fact is trying to share with them some reasoning. Reasoning that they are missing or rejecting in their comments.

Matthew 12:28-32 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
It will not be forgiven EVER…… We better know what this is then so we can not only avoid this but teach it to others as well.
There are two main questions to be answered here.
1) Why were they so angry?

2) What is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

First, the source of their anger in this incident can be found in verse 28. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Yahshua is telling them what they should already know and most likely do know but are rejecting it. This type of “Works” is from Heaven and done through the Ruach HaKodesh or the Holy Spirit. The spirit of God has come upon you and you are rejecting it because it does not fit your pre-conceived notions of what Messiah was supposed to look like, act like and do…..

2) To understand the Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit we need to first understand what is it defined as Biblically.

In Greek it is the word Pneuma 4151 and it means:

The Spirit of God sometimes referred to in a way that emphasizes his personality or character / and sometimes referred to in a way that emphasizes His power and work.

But if we want an accurate description we must look at the word Ruach in Hebrew. Holy Spirit literally from the Hebrew is the Ruach HaKodesh or the Set Apart Spirit.

Hebrew it is strongs 7307 and it means:

Wind, breath, mind, spirit

So we could literally say it is the wind of God, the Breath of God, the mind of God and the Spirit of God.

Without the Ruach we and any other true disciples of Messiah can do nothing. Miracles have been performed by demons, but a true follower of Messiah can do nothing without the Ruach, the power and breath of the Almighty.
Back to the statement he posed to them. If I cast out demons by the Ruach of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
In context, Yahshua is telling them that anyone that sees the power of the Ruach HaKodesh at work and still blasphemes it and attributes it to satan or evil…. this is the blasphemy that will NEVER be forgiven.

Possibly it is because the act of doing this has stated that your heart is beyond repair or hope, I don’t know? Certainly these Pharisees were corrupt beyond repair or at least most of them were.

Regardless of the reasons or the motives we have to understand that God will not allow people to misuse HIS power for their own personal glory and He will not allow an outright rebellious heart to ridicule His power at work on this earth.

Nicodemus states much earlier in Yahshua’s ministry “We know you are sent by God because no man can do these things you do unless God is with him”.

He was one of the Pharisee’s and they all knew God sent Yahshua, but their corruption and evil hearts did not want anything to do with Yahovah at this point in time. This is why they searched for every opportunity to destroy Yahshua and His ministry.
Anyone teaching the truth and following the Scriptures will be torn to pieces and slandered today just like it happened back then!

* I don’t want to miss what verse 30 says. I am going to read from the Hebrew Matthew “Whoever is not with me is against me. Whoever does not join himself to me; denies me.”

Refusing to accept Yahshua’s teachings and joining ourselves to Him is an outright rejection of the Gospel that Yahshua came to preach and rejection of the Messiah.

You can pray to Jesus and if it is only his name then I believe with all my heart he will hear you and respond. But if you are praying to the fake Jesus that we have been taught about and honoring the fake instructions that he never gave and following the twisted instructions of Paul, well then………GOOD LUCK.

If you haven’t already thought of this in your mind I am going to plant it there. What about all the prayers that have been answered and they were asked in the name of Jesus?
• First, Yahovah knows who you are praying to regardless.

• Second, I believe that in His mercy God chooses at times to heal people or answer prayers despite our own circumstances. Ultimately it is always for His glory.

• Third, I believe He is more prone to honor the prayers of individuals who are truly seeking Him but have been taught wrong.
• Last, I firmly believe that many of the “Answered” prayers of false teachers are not through the Holy Spirit.
God can choose to answer the prayer of a False Prophet for the benefit of the person being prayed for at His choosing, but many times I think you are witnessing a NON-HOLY SPIRIT at work.
The Kundulini Spirit comes straight out of Hinduism but it is embraced in many many churches who all think it is the Holy Spirit. The Ruach will NEVER work in a way that is pandemonium, chaos, and out of order.
However, the spirits set up by Satan will often work that way!

Next part of the teaching

Being a Bondservant of Messiah
We read throughout the New Testament that we are to be a bond servant or “Slave” to Messiah. While this is well and good few really know or understand what that is and how to apply it to our lives.

Since this is a short teaching I decided to add this on at the end. It also will assist as we lead into our next series teaching, which I am hoping to start next Sabbath.

Let’s start by reading a few verses from the New Testament.

Romans 1:1 Paul, a bondservant of Yahshua Messiah, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.
Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the bondservants of Yahshua Messiah…….
Titus 1:1 Paul, a bondservant of God, and an apostle of Yahshua Messiah……….
James 1:1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Yahshua Messiah.
2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and an apostle of Yahshua Messiah……
Jude 1:1 Can you guess? Jude, a bondservant of Yahshua Messiah………
Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His bondservants—things, which must shortly take place.

If we clearly see the apostles and writers of the New Testament books or many of them, all call themselves Bond Servants it seems to me that it is important that we know what it is.

John states in the Revelation that was given to him by Messiah Yahshua, that the “Revelation” is only for the bondservants.
Not only is the book of Revelataion reserved only for his bondservants, but it is far more important than that because I would submit to you that becoming a bondservant of Messiah is what is required when we say we “Believe in Him”.
A man went to the doctor and had a lot of tests done because he was not feeling well. Short of breath, loss of energy, and overall not well.

The doctor sat down with him and explained the test results. Well, your bad cholesterol is through the roof, your arteries are blocked 90%, your heart is weak, and you are on the verge of diabetes.

The man broke down in tears and claimed he loved his life and his family. He could not imagine how his kids would handle life without him around. And he said I am so happy in my marriage…. Doc, there has to be a way for me to get back into good health.

The Doctor smiled and said there is hope. He gave him a list of foods he could eat, an exercise plan and the man left a happy camper.

On the way home he saw a familiar sign of a place he loved and he could not resist stopping. It was the golden arches and he picked up a Quarter Pounder with Bacon, Fries and large chocolate shake.
He may or may not have believed the doctor and what he said, but there is one thing for certain.
He would not be around much longer!
You can read the Bible, memorize scripture, and talk intelligently about it but if you are not a bondservant of Messiah it is not going to go well with you at Judgment Day.
So…. Bondservant in greek is 1401 Doulos and it means:

• a slave, bondman, man of servile condition

• one who gives himself up to another's will whose service is used by Messiah in extending and advancing his cause among men

• devoted to another to the disregard of one's own interests

So a Doulos is really a Biblical Slave, but not what we think of today as a “Slave”. They always put their masters interest above their own, but they were also treated well by Torah abiding masters in Israel. They were also different from purchased slaves.
Let’s turn to Exodus 21:1-6

1 “These are the regulations you must present to Israel. 2 “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he may serve for no more than six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. 3 If he was single when he became your servant, he shall leave single. But if he was married before he became a servant, then his wife must be freed with him. 4 “If his master gave him a wife while he was a servant and they had sons or daughters, then only the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. 5 But the servant may declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I don’t want to go free.’ 6 If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door or doorpost and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the servant will serve his master for life.
So here is my question before we get into what a Hebrew Servant is.
Just because God gave us instructions on how to handle Servants does it mean He intended for us to BE servants? I would submit NO.
If anything these instructions should have repressed slavery and encouraged people to follow God’s Torah so they would never be in this situation.
Just like the laws against murder did not mean that God endorsed murder, but rather he abhorred it and told us not to do it.

The Hebrew word used here is ebed and is a derivation from the verb La’avod (it means - to work)

A Hebrew Servant or Slave was a worker but he did differ from the hired worker which is a (Sakhir).
According to the Jewish Virtual Library:

1) He received no wages, but he was taken care of physically.

2) The servant was a member of the Masters household

3) The master had certain rights over him like giving him a wife, etc.

Also, according to the same Jewish Virtual Library and I quote:

A Hebrew could not become a slave unless by order of the court or by giving himself voluntarily into bondage.
It was almost exclusively a practice by those that had become poor or had gotten in trouble with the law and could not pay a debt they owed. This was a way to be provided for and taken care of and at the same time pay off a debt that you owed to someone or to the courts.
Once a male servant had worked for his master for 6 years he was then declared FREE. His debt was paid and he could leave. But……
Perhaps he did not want to leave for any number of reasons. He did have the option to offer himself to his master for life.
Let’s take a look at the process recorded here and some of the things that was done throughout Jewish history or at least in these days and times that are not recorded.
1) The servant made a voluntary decision. There was no coercion just a simple choice that he made on his own.

Today, in order to start your walk with Messiah it has to begin with a conscious decision you make voluntarily to follow him. It does not work if it is a spur of the moment emotion or if you are pressured due to other friends doing it, etc. It must be from your heart.
2) It had to be a public profession. Verse 6 says present him before God, but many translations literally say before the judges of the city and God. The judges of the city always convened at the city gates and that is where he was taken.

Yahshua stated that we must confess Him before men if we want to be confessed by Yahshua to the Father. It must be public or it is closet Christianity and is basically worthless.
A man once told me that there is a physical attribute that most people have that let’s them know they are called to share the good news with others and you can know for certain if you are called to do this.

It is if you have an opening in your face between your nose and chin!
3) The door is deleth in Hebrew and means gate as well

Doorpost is Mezuzzah, which also means gate posts

This is referring to the city gate where the elders or judges were always gathered and he would be presented publicly before God.

The servant would publicly state his desire to be a bondservant to his master and the Elders before God could then ratify it.

This ties in with two and certainly does not require us to go through any ritual to get a document or recognition that we belong to Messiah. Once you have made the decision in your heart and the public acknowledgement the only other thing the Scripture tells us is necessary is Baptism. Perhaps that is similar to what the Servant is doing here.

4) This was a covenant ceremony and the two were entering into a covenant together. Blood would be needed to seal the covenant so they would lean him up against the gatepost of the city and an awl would be placed against his ear lobe and he was then pierced.

We no longer need to shed blood since Messiah shed His blood for our covenant with Him. We need to receive and follow the covenant.
*The ear was significant because it took a willing ear to Shema. To hear, listen and obey. This would now be expected of the Servant and it is expected of us as well.

5) A ring was put in the servant’s ear and the ring was tied to the master in that the servant could conduct affairs and business on behalf of the Master. He would only do what the master instructed and he always had the best interests of the master in his mind.

What signifies we are his today? Possibly our tzitzits as we don’t have a Yahshua earing per say.
Certainly we should give our ear to all that Messiah and the Father tell us to do. In all our spiritual business we should conduct ourselves in a way that pleases our Master and only has HIS best interest at heart.
Everywhere we go we represent the King of the Universe and we should act like it everywhere we go!
6) This deal was for life. There was no back up plan. Once the covenant was sealed in blood it was permanent. This would be in effect for the rest of the servant’s life.
Today, one thing people rarely do is “Count the Cost”. Yahshua told us in Luke 14 we should do this when we are considering following him. He also told us in Matthew 16 “If any man will follow me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”.
This is a serious lifetime commitment for those who are sold out.

You better make sure you know what you are committing to when you commit your life as a Bondservant to Yahshua Messiah.

This analogy of the Old Testament Servant is exactly what Peter, Paul, James, Jude and John wrote about in the New Testament.

They were Doulos / Bondservants “voluntarily” of Yahshua Messiah.

We too need to know and understand that a commitment to Messiah and a commitment to follow Yahovah, the Creator of Heaven and Earth are far more than simple heart-felt prayers.

It is far more than even acknowledging verbally that Jesus is the Son of God. James said, “big whoop dee do. The devils even admit that!”

• It is a voluntary decision to make the Messiah your Master

• It is the decision to follow him as your Master for life

• It is the decision to follow all of His instructions fully and wholly

• It is a decision you can not make unless you have counted the cost and determined that you are all in.

• It is a decision that I hope each and everyone of you has made in your life or will make this day.

Become a Doulos or Bondservant of Messiah and you too will partake with Him in His kingdom to come.

Let’s close in prayer.
