Industry Institute Interaction (I.I.I.) cell

The department of Biotechnology, SVCE conducted Industry Institute Interaction (I.I.I.) cell meeting on 4.10.2010. The objective of this meeting is to receive advices regarding the skills expected from our graduates and training for faculty members from the industry personnel and also about the required modification in the present curriculum that suits to the industry needs. The members also discussed about the possibilities to do collaborative student projects relevant to industries as summer training and further opportunities to attract consultancy projects for the industries.

ENCLOSURE I

National Level Technical Symposium – INTERRUPT 2010

Report

The annual one-day National Level Technical Symposium – Interrupt 2010 was conducted on 2nd September 2010, in our college premises.

The President of the Association for Computer Engineers (ACE), Amog Rajendran, gave the welcome address. The function was inaugurated by our honorable Vice-Principal Prof.E.G.Govindan, who was the chief guest, by lighting the lamp. The chief guest was introduced by our respectable Dean (Student affairs) and Head of Computer Science Department, Dr.M.Gopalakrishnan. Followed which the chief guest addressed the participants from other colleges and students of our college. The inaugural function ended at 9.45 a.m.

Nearly 125 participants registered for various events. Technical events like – Technical Paper presentation, Quiz, Problem Solving, Coding and Debugging, Web Designing were the events conducted for the students from other colleges. Poster presentation was an event conducted exclusively to the 3rd semester students of CS department, SVCE.

Each of the above events was conducted by the event managers(students) under the guidance of the Faculty in-charges for each event, at various venues.

11 teams of students from various colleges presented the papers, and the best two teams were selected as winners. First place was bagged by V.Saravana Kumar and R.Samuel Jabez from Panimalar Engineering College and Second place by Kruthika Kulsasekara and K.Anjuman Sakeena Mubeen from Anand Institute of Higher Technology


Mr.S.Ganesh Vaidyanathan, Assistant Professor, ECE and Ms.S. Pushpa, Assistant Professor, CSE, were the judges for the Poster presentation event. Two teams out of 23 were selected as winners. First place was given to R.Aarthi, Amritha Ravi, Gayatri. S.S and second place to Saranya.R, Vijayalakshmi.K, Sushmitha.E of Second year CS, SVCE.

The Valedictory function started at 3.00 pm. The Chief Guest Dr.K Balu, Dean (Educational Development), SVCE, was introduced by the ACE coordinator, Ms.S.R.Malathi. Followed which the chief guest addressed the students and gave away the prizes to the winners. The report of the day was read by Ms.G.Jankasudha, ACE coordinator. Sivaraman S V, Treasurer, ACE, gave the vote of thanks. The function concluded with National Anthem.

Achievement of staff

  1. Dr.Susan Elias has been recognized as a Supervisor for guiding Ph.D and M.S (By Research) scholars of Anna University, Chennai under the faculty of Information and Communication Engineering in the area of Multimedia Communication.

  2. Semi-Finalist - DST Lockheed Martin India Innovates Growth Program2010.
    This is an innovator contest which calls for innovative ideas from Indian citizens every year. For details visit http://www.indiainnovates.in. This is an Indo-US joint venture to identify innovators and innovative ideas for commercialization in the US market. They received 400 innovative ideas this year. Dr.Susan Elias was one of the 60 semi-finalists and was invited to attend the workshop on Commercialization Strategies for Entrepreneurs held in March 2010 at Delhi organized by FICCI, DST, Lockheed Martin Corporation, ICC Institute University of Texas and Indo-US Science & Technology Forum.

  3. Second Prize - CII Innovator Award (SouthZone)
    The project titled "Adaptive e-learning for 3G Mobile Multimedia System" guided by Dr.Susan Elias comprising of a team of students of the III year Computer Science won the second prize out of 250 entries at the CII Innovator contest held in Feb 2010. The team received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.

  4. Dr. Susan Elias Prof., Department of Computer Science & Engineering Selected for Short term Post Doctoral Fellowship for Women at IIT Madras, July 2010- Jan 2011. Collaborative Research work in Membrane Computing With Marian Gheorghe, Professor, Department of Computer Science, University of Sheffield, UK and Kamala Krithivasan, Professor, Department of Computer Science, IIT M, Chennai.

  5. Ms.S.Rajalakshmi, Asst.Prof, Computer Science and Engineering received Prof. T. R. NATESAN ENDOWMENT AWARD, Silver Medal in the M. E. (Systems Engineering and Operations Research) programme for securing the second highest CGPA during the programme period 2007 to 2010.


Ms.S.Chandrakala, Asso.Prof / CS has completed Ph.D viva at IIT Madras on 07.01.11.
