Research techniques summary

Worked as Project fellow in ICMR sponsored project from May 2006 - Oct 2006 at Ethnopharmacology Division, National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR), Lucknow, India.

During this period I carried out the following research activities-

  • Collection and systematic extraction of the plant materials with solvent of different polarity followed by fractionation.

  • Quality control parameter investigated as Preliminary phytochemical screening of the different fraction plant for the identification of various active constituents viz. alkaloid, carbohydrate, flavonoid, amino acid, saponin, phytosterol, phenolic compound, tannin, gum and resin, etc.,

  • HPTLC analysis was performed.

  • Toxicological studies for the actual LD50 determination was done by using mice of both sexes.

  • Induction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in rats were given a single intraperitoneal injection of N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) (200 mg/kg body weight) followed by subcutaneous injections of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) (3 ml/kg body weight/week) for 6 weeks.

  • Carried out detailed chemical biomarker investigations like Serum was analyzed for the serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) bilirubin (BL) and gamma glutamate transpeptidase (GGT).

  • Liver was also analyzed for superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), lipid peroxide (LPO), glutathione peroxidase(GPx), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) showing in treatment of hepato cellular carcinoma.

  • Statistical analysis was carried out by using one way ANOVA.
