K100 Professional Development Model

District Wide Inservice

2014-15

The K100 model is designed to address the differentiated professional development needs of classroom teachers and site administrators, utilizing VTC distance delivery technology.

School calendars are built with two K100 ‘floating’ District-Wide inservice days. While the content is driven by district priorities, the scheduling of these ‘floating’ DW inservice days is based on each site’s calendar. IMPORTANT: K100 time is compensated on the site’s designated K100 days.
K100 courses are conducted in 90-minute sessions. Each K100 inservice day is composed of (5) 90-minute sessions, equivalent to 7.5 hours. Sites are allocated two K100 Inservice Days, so teachers and site administrators need to complete 10 sessions by the end of the site’s last K100 day, using a combination of the delivery modes described below.

THREE DELIVERY MODES:
Classroom teachers and site administrators have three options for each K100 Inservice day.

1. The first option is the ‘Live’ mode: participate in the live 90-minute K100 session when it is broadcast via VTC from 4:45-6:15. (Survey respondents prefer this mode)

2. The second option is the ‘Video-On-Demand’ mode: participants complete a pre-recorded version of a session during off-contract hours.

3. The third option is the ‘Inservice Day’ mode: Participants attend the ‘Floating’ Inservice Day as scheduled on the site calendar, and complete five 90-minute pre-recorded K100 training sessions through video streaming technology.
For each option, the teacher’s participation must be logged in through the K100 registration sign-in process and confirmed by the course instructor. For options 1 and 2, each session completed is ‘pre-credited’ toward the next K100 inservice day. A total of 5 credited sessions is required for each K100 inservice day, regardless of which scheduling option was chosen. Teachers may choose to combine different options.

For questions about the registration process, catalog of K100 sessions, ASDN Webinars, or participation credit for K100 sessions, contact Mary Noes, Staff Development Specialist.

**Important note about ASDN Webinars: www.asdn.org
Enrollment in the new ASDN Webinars is free to LKSD educators, as are the archived webinars. Teachers may take webinars individually or as part of a PLC project with colleagues for ‘district initiative’ credit.
Most ASDN Webinars have an option to get one credit (professional development level credit) through APU. The credit cost is $90, and is a personal cost.

Associate Teachers should work with their Site Administrators to determine which K100 courses to take. Associate Teachers do not have the same contractual requirement as certified teachers to complete 10 sessions. As hourly employees, Associate Teachers will include K100 hours on their timesheet as a course is taken.
