Obituary published in the Polk County Enterprise - April 3, 1972 Edition

Services were held from the Chapel of the Pace Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 28, 1972 at 3 p.m. for Marion Alfred Rushing, age 69, of Athens, Texas. The Rev. Frank Hood officiated. Interment followed in the Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Rushing was born the son of Elbert Johnsey Rushing and Elizabeth Brownlow. A native of Athens, Texas, he spent his early life there and attended the public schools of the Athens community. Mr. Rushing

has lived in many parts of Texas, mostly in Ft. Worth. He moved to Livingston in January of this year. Mr. Rushing was a member of the Joppa, La. Masonic Lodge No. 362 A. F. & A. M. Shreveport, La. He attended the Baptist Church. Survivors include: Joe Rushing of Livingston, Texas, Jack Rushing of Dallas, Texas; 2 sisters; Mrs. Jimmy Coker of Groveton, Texas, Mrs. Lanie Adams of Dallas, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Masonic Lodge was in charge of the graveside service.

LIVINGSTON - Dylan Wayne Castilaw Scott, age 2, of Livingston died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in a Houston hospital. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 18, at Pace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Alford and Matthew Duston officiating. Interment followed in Bold

Springs Cemetery. Dylan was born on April 12, 2001 in Livingston. HUNTSVILLE – Funeral services for Raymond Eugene Short, 49, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 20 from the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Fulp officiating. Interment will follow in the Bold Springs Cemetery. He was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Short on April 8, 1931 in Livingston. He was employed by the City of Huntsville. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Huntsville. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Short of Huntsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Keith Thornton of Trinity; parents; Mr. and Mrs. John Short of Livingston, one brother; Donald Ray Short of California and three grandchildren.

Livingston – Funeral services for Mary Lynn Sitton, 42, of Livingston were held Tuesday, March 3, 1992 from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Hood officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Sitton died Feb. 29, in M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She was born May 9, 1949 in Houston, the daughter of Robert L. Williamson and Mary Richardson Williamson. She married Johnny Sitton on March 10, 1967 in Livingston. Survivors include her husband, Johnny Sitton of Livingston, son, Johnny Lynn Sitton and wife Kim of Livingston; daughter, Susan Luedke and husband Roger of Huntsville; grandsons, Bryan Luedke of Huntsville; parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. “Bob” Williamson of Livingston; sisters, Kathy Reese of Kilgore and Aletha Gandy of Kilgore; grandmother, Flossie Richardson of Longview; mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Duff of Houston; and numerous other relatives and close friends. Pallbearers were Larry Duff, Marshall Duff, Richard Duff, Carlton Duff, Ronald Duff and Darryl Gandy.

Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON – Agnese Hood Smith died during the night of March 20, 2008 at the age

of 98. Agnese, wife, mother, “Big Granny,” aunt, cousin and friend to many was born November 6, 1909 in Polk County to Gertie Lee Meece Hood and Lynn Thomas Hood.

Her life unfolds like a history book. The life long Polk Countian entered this world in a

time before electricity, indoor plumbing, and paved streets. She left this world in a time

of computers, cell phones, and freeways. She knew wood stove to microwave and model T

to Towncar. She lived through 17 presidents, two world wars, depression, space age, and

up to all the modern day amenities and technology enjoyed today. She picked cotton, herded cattle, rode horses and loved animals. She loved to swim in Carlton Lake and fox hunt by horseback as a young lady. She always said, “I was the boy my daddy never had.” Angese attended a one-room school in the Colita area for grades 1-5, and in the Bold Springs school until the ninth grade. She then boarded in Livingston and attended Livingston High School. She graduated in 1928 and attended Stephen F. Austin. She returned to teach in Soda. She then went to work in the District Clerk’s Office under Mr. Alec Jones, who had been her elementary school teacher. Agnese met and married the love of her life, Tom, in 1933 and left work to become a full time wife. Her husband and Agnese built a home on the Old Bold Springs Road during 1936 and she was able to reside there until her death. She became mother to Lynda in 1939 and Thomas in 1941. Her life was family, husband and the First Baptist Church of which she has been a member since 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; parents and sister, Alma Bader. She is survived by son, Thomas and wife Pat of Spring; daughter, Lynda Evans and husband Clarke of Livingston; nephew, Hood Bader and wife Diane of Pearland and grandchildren, Darrel Appelt and wife Melanie of Columbus, Treva Smith Pratt and husband Thomas of Spring and Laura Appelt Evans and husband Keith of Katy. Step-children are Corky Evans and wife Deana of Livingston, wade Evans and wife Sherrie of Friendswood, Keith Evans and wife Laura of Katy, Andy Evans and wife Allison of Livingston. Great-grandchildren are Stephen and Kyle Appelt, Tyler and Taegan Pratt and Trent, Travis and Reagan Evans. Step-great-grandchildren are Christopher Evans, Preston, Corey, Tanner Cheyenne and Cameron Evans, Caleb, Colby and Kirbie Evans and Cole Smith. Step-great-great-grandchild is Calleigh Evans. She is also survived by special friends, Doris Stockton, Bobbye Lee Rogers Wade, Shirley Howard, and Gaylon and Claudette Taylor and special nieces, Jean Giffin, Betty Smith Filyaw, Veran Smith and Wanda Smith, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were John Thompson, Corky Cochran, Thomas Pratt, Keith Evans, Darrel Appelt, Hood Bader, Bobby Filyaw, Andy Hood, Kyle applet, Stephen Appelt, and Joe Keith Puckett. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Coley, Johnny Walker, Major Benge, Don Payne,

Lester Hurtt, Dr. Jerry Wood, Greg Ogletree, Harlan Camp, Johnny Williams, Ronnie Wiggins, Andy Evans, Corky Evans, Wade Evans, Jared Smith, Frank McQueen, the Friendship Sunday School Class and Laureate Theta Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Monday, March 24, 2008 with music by Kevan Wood, Martha Smith and Mary Beth Wood. Bro. Orval Barger, Bro. Frank Hood and Bro. Rusty Shuler officiated. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

Jason was born on November 21, 1999 in Livingston and died on Feb. 26, 2003.
