LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for James Edker Standley, 90, of Livingston will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 1997, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Standley died June 20 in Houston.

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services for James Edker Standley, 90, of Livingston, were Sunday, June 22, 1997 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald White and the Rev. Joe Pridgen officiating. Interment was in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Standley was born Oct. 4, 1906 in Westville to Richard Durham Standley and Laura Brent. He died Sunday, June 20, 1997 at Mariner Health Nursing Center in Houston. A volunteer fireman in the 1920s and 1930s, Standley worked as a mechanic with Sory Ford-Chevrolet and later worked for Pan American Pipeline Company, from which he retired in 1960. Known as “Mr. Fix-it,” Standley could repair cars, lawn mowers, oil pumps and appliances. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and gunsmith work. He also enjoyed horses and dogs. Although he lived most of his life in Livingston and Bold Springs, Mr. Standley began his retirement years in Woodville. Standley was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Standley and Laura Brent; a sister Ethel Hammond; two brothers, Bethel Standley and Woodard Standley; a niece Lunell Whitehead; and two nephews, John L. Hammond and Harald Standley. Survivors include his wife, Blanche Standley of Livingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Nellie Joe and Marvin Yarotsky of Houston; a sister Eula Dempsey of Dickinson; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Karla and Bart Lewis of Houston, Nana and Skip Midcap of Houston, Brenda and Pushkar Hazare of Teaneck, N.J.; granddaughters, Lori Yartosky of New York, N. Y. and Sheila Jacobson of Houston; great-granddaughters, Tamara Lewis and Amanda Midcap; great-grandsons, Zachary Lewis, Levi Midcap, Nathan Midcap, David Midcap and Aaron Jacobson, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Richard Standley, Jimmy Hammond, Glen Standley, Arthur Oates, Jerry Standley and Joe Thomas.Honorary pallbearers were Skip Midcap and Bart Lewis. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LIVINGSTON – Funeral services were held Friday for Sylvester Standley, 92, at Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bob Lewis and the Rev. T. J. Seamans officiated and interment followed at Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Standley died Wednesday in Lufkin Memorial Hospital. She lived in Corrigan most of her life and married the late Higia Snow

Standley July 10, 1917 in Livingston. Mrs. Standley was a member of Stryker Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Estis Standley of Corrigan and Johnny Standley

of Chester; four daughters, Emma Wars of Groveton, Betty Turner, Ethel McClendon and Pearl Loving, all of Lufkin; two brothers, Bill McCarty of Jasper and Cabe McCarty of Groveton; stepbrother, Ed Baker of Bold Springs; 23 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Livingston – Funeral services for Hattie Edna Steele, 91, were held Wednesday,

March 30, 1988 from the chapel of the Pace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Hood and the Rev. Johnny Buller officiating. Interment followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Steele died March 28 in Lake Livingston Medical Center following a very lengthy illness. She was born June 10, 1896, the youngest of 10 children born to B. K. Stricklin and Mary Francis Jolly Stricklin in Grimes County, TX. She was reared and attended school in Grimes County. At the age of 20, Mrs. Steele married Virgil E. Steele on Aug. 23, 1916 in Groveton. Mr. Steele preceded her in death in 1962. Mrs. Steele worked with her husband splitting ties and on the family farm. She was a devoted wife and good neighbor. She shared her vegetables and farm-raised meat with her friends and neighbors. Mrs. Steele was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bold Springs, a faithful member until her health failed. Survivors include two nephews, Cecil Hoyt Lovell of Dallas and Cecil Witherspoon of Houston; two nieces, Ima Jean Cherry and Elsie Keen of Houston; three great-nieces, Dora Pierce and Wanda Walker of Livingston and Linnie V. Parish of Trinity; two very dear friends Roland and Wayne Wilder of Livingston. Pallbearers were Roland Wilder, Clay Lawrence, Harold Isaacs, Eugene Pierce, Roger Marsh, Doug Hand and Kenneth Baker.
