MOCB12 Update: 2015 Term 2
2014
Welcome to the second of the 2015 editions of the MOC B to 12 Term Update. We publish this brief overview at the beginning of every term to update the community on any whole of college changes for the forthcoming term.
Currently we are reviewing how we distribute our newsletters. Please take the time to complete our very simple survey. We want to know –
• Are they being read?
• Do they even get home?
• Would there be a better way? The cost of printing over 800 in anyone week is a costly exercise – if they are getting home and being read, well worth it , if not then we need to think of better ways.

This link is also available via our website. The survey has been extended to now close at the end of week two (May 8).

STAFFING
This term we welcome Tom McDonough, Caitlin Hilliard, Steven Prior, Deanne Olston, Beatrice Casbarra, Bianca Gerardis and Sam Wesson to the teaching staff. Most are well known at MOC through their previous work. At the beginning of Week 2 we will welcome back Ella Ailmore after a term of "Master Teacher" in QLD.
In other staffing news I am sad to inform everyone that Muhama Yotham (our Bi-Lingual Student Support Officer) has resigned as he has successfully gained full time appointment with his other employers in his chosen field- very sorry for us but delighted for him. I know we would all wish him well. Our new BSSO is Etiene Ndikuriyo.
Next it is congratulations to Sally-Anne Lowe who became an Apple Distinguished Educator during the break! She joins Dean Clark and Craig Brown as our previous 2 successful applicants. As an international "competition" it is incredibly difficult to get a guernsey (4 this time in SA) and of great credit to the successful applicants. MOC has now had a teacher selected in every round since we started - they only do them every two years. Well Done Sally.
For this term we believe we have strengthened the PY specialist teaching program (NIT) through developing year level team structures ( modelled on the very successful EY and MY arrangements) such that specialist teachers are aligned to Year Level teams and as such become integral members of those teams – students see less teachers.
AGM
The 2015 AGM of our Governing Council will be held next week on Thursday 7 May from 6pm in our Library – please consider attending.
INITIATIVES
Computer Science Experiences and Chinese Language Cultural Experiences.
These will see groups of students (EY,PY and MY) be able to undertake one or both of these experiences during Term 2. These sessions will be more like incursions to stimulate and ‘expose’ our students, and hopefully engage further to aspects of the curriculum that currently we cannot always cover. Stay tuned.
iMOC – Inclusion@MOC
iMOC or Inclusion @ MOC is the name for the suite of programs/initiatives that are designed to optimise the positive outcomes for our students at significant risk of non-engagement from education. FLO programs have been the most well-known.
Kate Eadsforth is leading the iMOC initiative in Term 2. Reviewing what is working, and where we need to expand/develop other program options This change has lead to Nathan Elliott acting as Senior Leader in the Middle years for Term 2.
The MY iMOC program for up to 10 of our MY students is one such development. This program is combining both on and off campus work. Chris Gower is the teacher and Trecia Smith is the Youth Worker.

FACILITIES
Over the holidays the major work was of the repair and refurbish type across the college.
However I was very pleased that the Class of 2014 Graduate pole was installed – adding to the colour by Building 11.
As always thank you for your ongoing support of the college.
