Seventh framework programme

In constructing the budget, the project has identified a need for non-manpower funds for:

1. 
   Community building: 58,000 € is requested under NA4 for building new VO communities (as described in TNA4.3.1);
   

1. 
   Encouraging business users to attend EGEE events: 12,000 € is requested under NA2 to fund travel costs for business speakers to participate in business days;
   

1. 
   Ensuring adequate dissemination with stands at events, adequate printing of material, etc: 90,000 € is requested under NA2 (as described in TNA2.3 and TNA2.4);
   

1. 
   Seed resources for new User Communities: 51,000 € is requested under SA1 – at project month 6, further to the procedure drawn up by the Resource Allocation Group to allocate these funds, they have been allocated in equal shares to CNRS (LAL), GRNET (AUTH), CYFRONET and STFC (RAL);
   

1. 
   To encourage participation to major EGEE events by representatives from non-European countries such as the USA, The Commonwealth of Independent States, and Asia Pacific countries, 92,000 € is requested under NA1;
   

1. 
   33,000 € is requested to cover the costs of the certificates on the financial statements for partners who must provide them.

Resource Commitments

Partners will be committing computing and storage resources as detailed in Table below. CPU resources are given in 1000 SpecInt2000 (see http://www.spec.org/cpu2000/), a common CPU performance metric, while storage resources are given in Terabytes (10^12 bytes). All these resources will be integrated in the EGEE infrastructure. A certain fraction of resources, indicated in the column labelled “seed resources”, will be made available to new virtual organisations in order to attract them to use the EGEE infrastructure, demonstrate the benefits and later encourage them to bring their own resources to the infrastructure. In addition, if funding permits, it is proposed that pools of dedicated seed resources will be operated at a few partner sites. The EGEE infrastructure will rely on the network provided by GÉANT2 and the NRENs. The computing and storage resources made available to the project by the EGEE partners via their own funding sources have an estimated value exceeding 50 Million €. This figure also includes an estimate of the value of the manpower contributed by non-EC funded partners.

At the time of writing (December 2007), the EGEE infrastructure comprises approximately 70,000kSI2k. Table 7 above, shows the expected values the end of year 1, and it is expected to grow to approximately 170,000kSI2k by the end of the project.

The status of the infrastructure will be monitored via the metrics programme and reported in the quarterly reports.
