  1. Description and purpose of the course

Description The course gives an introduction to GIS and its apllication in biodiversity and nature conservation. The first part of the course gives an introduction to geographical concepts relevant to GIS and training in the operation of QGIS. The second part of the course provides an introduction to the application of GIS in analyzing the duistribution of anthropgenic pressure and its imapct on biodiversity followed by use of GIS in conservation planning. By the end of this course students will have aquired basic knowledge and practical skills in using GIS and its apllications in biodiversity and nature conservation. The 30 hours of lectures and 15 hours of semiars were offered during 15 weeks. Each week the available hours were used to offer a combination of a lecture followed by an exercise.
Aim of the course To provide an introduction to GIS and its apllications in biodiversity and nature conservation and to develop the skills in applying GIS in these application fields.
