Investıgatıons On The Evaluatıon Of Plant Specıes In Relatıon Wıth The Soıl Propertıes Of Parks In Bayrampaşa Dıstrıct

The study was conducted at Sancak, Barış, Kızılay and Cumhuriyet parks of Bayrampaşa county. The trees of the parks were numbered and; Tree Species, Length (m), 1.3 m Diameter (cm), Basal Diameter (cm), Canopy Diameter (m), Inclination (%), Fungus (present -absent), Insect (present -absent), Drying (%) were measured. The soil samples of the parks were taken from 15 x 15 m2 grid points systematically by boring tool. Samples were taken from the depths 0 - 10 cm, 10 - 20 cm, 20 - 40 cm, 40 - 60 cm, 60 - 80 cm. Totally 250 soil samples were contributed as 13, 14, 10, 13 bores (5 samples per bore) from Sancak, Barış, Kızılay and Cumhuriyet parks respectively. Besides 4, 3, 3 and 4 summed up to 14 soil pits were dug at Sancak, Barış, Kızılay and Cumhuriyet parks respectively due to growth of parks and 84 soil samples from the depths 0-5 cm, 5-15 cm, 15 - 30 cm, 30 - 50 cm, 50 - 70 cm and >70cm. Volume, fine soil and skeleton weights, texture, soil textural class, organic matter, saltiness and pH were determined at collected samples. The general soil textural class requirements of the present species were derived from the related literature. Furthermore the soil characteristics determined in this study were compared to the given data and communication was made on plant use suitability.

The soils of the parks have averagely more than 80 cm depth. Any stagnant water stain could not be detected along the soil profile observations. While 30 % of the total soil textural class are sandy clay, clay and silt + clay rates reach up to 55 %. Cumhuriyet and Barış parks have higher organic carbon content than the other two parks whilst Kızılay park has the lowest organic carbon content. The pH of the soil of parks ranges between 7.02 and 8.78. If parks compared to each other pH of the Sancak and Barış parks are higher than the others. Average lime contents of the soils of the parks change from 0.22 to 10.0 %. Since the determined soil properties carry influence on the plant growth performance, the inconveniencies between soil requirements of plants and the currents soils were presented. Besides since crown canopies of the matured trees will cover from 2.8 times to more than 5 times greater area than the actual size that stands as a threat for the future.
