Analysis Of Factors Influencing Career Development Of Women At The Information Technology Field In Turkey
World-wide research has concluded that labor force participation of women less than labor force participation of men at Information Technology (IT) compared with other fields and this rate decreases gradually. These results make it necessary that each country should analyze factors which caused this situation.
This study aims to determine and analysises the social and cultural factors that influencing career development of women who work in the field of IT in Turkey. The study can be divided into two parts: The concepts of sex and gender are explained in the first part. Also, the roles (statuses) which are associated with women both in the world and Turkey, the current state of women's in the field of IT are summarized by literature research, TSI (Turkey Statistical Institute) and Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Union)
In the second part of the study, 170 women were selected by a simple random sampling method from the community of women who work in the field of IT in Turkey. They were invited to participate in a survey. By using the SPSS (Statistical Package of Social Science) 16.0 survey results were analyzed. It had been utilized some analysis such as factor analysis, Pearson's Correlation Analysis, Independent Group T, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and ANOVA tests. According to the results of the analysis, interpretations and recommendations was made.
