Screening of foreign gene in maize derived food
Plantation area of the genetically modified crops which are designated to acquire resistance to pests and diseases, herbicide-tolerance, increased product quality is increasing day by day. Despite the prohibition of growing transgenic crops in our country, the transgenic products are being imported to our country and sold in markets.
Within the context of this thesis project, determined qualitative and quantitative transgene contents of foods derived maize which is one of the mostly produced transgenic in the worldwide. Various sample groups were screened qualitatively by PCR analysis based on determination of 35S promotor and nos terminator which used as regulatory sequences in many transgenic approved by The European Union. The amount of transgene (nos) was quantitatively determined in the samples which are identified as GMO in qualitative analyses. Qualitative and quantitative PCR analysis determined that many food samples, including baby foods sold in our country contain GMO’s products.
