1463 FU HENG. Han-yi araha nonggime toktobuha Manju gisun-yi buleku bithe. / Yu zhi zeng ding Qing wen jian: San shi er juan, bu bian si juan, zong gang ba juan, bu zong gang yi juan. 45 vols. (of 47), printed on folding leaves. 28 cm. Lrg. 4to. Orig. wraps. Covers brittle and torn; binding loosening; corners at lower right of vol. 1 chipped; prefatory volume worn; volume of supplementary index brittle, end pages torn. A near complete, albeit quite fragile, copy of this important work, which is considered to be the apogee of a tradition of Manchu dictionaries going back to the middle of the 17th century.
The text is printed in vertical columns from left to right. The prolegomena consist of the imperial introduction of 1708 in Manchu, the imperial preface of 1772 in Manchu with parallel Chinese text, and the Manchu syllabary with transcription in Chinese characters.

In the main body the lexical entries are grouped according to categories of meaning. To the left of each Manchu entry its pronunciation is given according to the san-ho ch’ieh-yin system. Right of the Manchu entry stand the Chinese characters representing its meaning, and to the right thereof the pronunciation of these characters is given in Manchu script. Each four-part entry is followed by a schematic description of the lemma in Manchu. These definitions are quite crude. The systematically worked out transcriptions do, however, provide an important source of information on the sounds of the Manchu language of the period.

The main body is followed by an index table, giving the Manchu words included in the main work, arranged according to syllable, and with a reference to the category in which they are included. Added to the work are a supplement to the main dictionary and a table of the words included in this supplement. Of the former, only the first three juan and of the latter only the first juan are included in this set. Only two copies listed in OCLC in America (Harvard; UCLA). Harvard dates the title to 1771, but, since the book itself is dated to December 24, 1771 of the Chinese lunar calendar, it should properly be dated to 1772 A.D.
