[in ea sunt si pesti astazi, crapi chinezesti decorativi, ca la bazinul de la Tabgha Israel; In June 1422, a man was frying fish in Ayazma next to the sea and suddenly he was told that Murat the 2nd conquered the city. He did not believe the news and said: „It would have been as ridiculous as seeing these fish jump from the pan into the sea and at that moment the fish came alive and jumped out.” It is believed that after that day, the fish in the pool in Ayazma keep on jumping. We can read this story from Robert Walsh’s book about Istanbul, published in 1838.],
An interesting feature of this sacred spring, which lies within the boundaries of a monastery, are the gravestones of the Orthodox population of Karaman (a province in Central Anatolia), with which this courtyard is paved. Due to the fact that these Anatolian Christians were, in all probability, of Turkish origin, their language was Turkish. The inscriptions on their gravestones were in Turkish written using the Greek alphabet.
The present church is also rectangular in shape. It is roughly oriented in E - W direction, and has three naves divided by columns and preceded by an esonarthex. By the Northwest corner rises a metallic bell tower. The interior is richly adorned. On the right side near the middle of the nave there is a Pulpit, while at the end lies a rich iconostasis. Right of the iconostasis there is an icon which the tradition says painted by Saint Luke.

The source lies in a subterranean crypt outside the church, and can be accessed descending a stair parallel the long sides of the church. A symmetric stair leads from the crypt to the church’s yard. The crypt is adorned with paintings and icons, and is surmounted by a dome painted with Christ in a starry sky. The water flows into a marble basin, where fishes are swimming. These fishes, present in the basin since centuries, gave origin to the Turkish name of the complex (balikli in Turkish means "place where there are fishes"). According to a late legend, the day of the Conquest of Constantinople a monk was frying fishes in a pan near the source. When a colleague announced him the fall of the City, he replied that he would have believed him only if the fishes in the pan would have come back to life. After his words these jumped in the source and began swimming.
The yard in front of a church is a cemetery with marble tombs – mostly of them dating to the nineteenth and twentieth century - belonging to wealthy Rûms of Istanbul. Also several Patriarchs are buried here. Characteristic of this cemetery are also several gravestones with Karamanli inscriptions, which constitute by far the largest surviving group in this language. The complex is also surrounded by two large cemeteries, respectively Armenian and Greek, each enclosed in high walls.

Biserica Vlaherne:
Athos.
Icoana “Vlahernita” se zice ca se afla (venind tot din Mt Athos) la Moscova, in Kremlin, in Biserica Adormirii MD, iar in prezent la Galeriile Tretiakov in sectiunea icoanelor.

Niciuna dintre ele (“Imnul Acatist” Manast.
Exista insa in biserica noua Vlaherne, langa izvor o (alta ?) icoana minunata a MD.
The small church which today encloses the Hagiasma has a trapezoidal plan with sloping roof, and is adorned with icons and frescoes. It is oriented in northwest-southeast direction. The holy fountain, which is believed to have healing powers, is always a favourite destination for Orthodox and Muslim pilgrims, who pour in the pool coins and hair pins. The pilgrim can also ritually wash his eyes at a line of faucets. Above them a modern palindrome inscription says: "Nípson anomímata mi mónan ópsin" (Greek: "Wash the sins not only the eyes"). The water falls into an underground gallery, which according to a tradition links the Hagiasma with that in Balıklı. The church is run by an episkopos and two papades. Each Friday morning the Akathist Hymn, composed by Patriarch Sergius during the Siege of 626, is sung there. Since the nearby area is not urbanized, it would be possible to explore it in order to understand more about the ancient complex.
