Concept – HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Concept Definition

Human Development is the sequence of biophysical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental changes over the human lifespan that allow the individual complex adaption to the environment in order to function within society. (Hesselgrave)

Objectives

  1. Explain the concept of Human Development (including definition, antecedents, and attributes).

a. List factors that influence development.

b. Describe essential principles related to development.

c. Explain theories related to development.


  1. Analyze conditions which place an individual at risk for altered growth and Development.

  2. Identify when altered growth and development is occurring or has occurred.

  3. Apply the nursing process (including collaborative interventions) for individuals experiencing Human Development imbalance and to promote normal Human Development.

  4. Summarize standards of therapeutic approach and health care to meet those needs, and trends in care of the person’s Human Development throughout the life span.
