a) IBM and SVCE have signed MoU and IBM had set-up a Centre of Excellence in IT department Laboratory. Students of circuit branches will be trained in IBM DB 2 and will be given IBM International Certification.

d) R. Sindhuja, and P. Varsha, students of final year IT department bagged the "Best Paper Award" for the paper "ID Based Entitled Verifier Cryptography for Grid Systems" presented in the 4th ICEMC2 conference, PESSE Bangalore. The paper, which dealt with ID based cryptography for grid systems, was completed under the guidance of Dr. G. Sumathi, Prof & HOD, IT. The conference was sponsored by PESIT and co-sponsored by ISRO and Microsoft Research.

Department has received grant for Rs.3.5 Lakhs from AICTE under (RPS) scheme for a research project titled “Experimental investigation and ANN modeling of Al-SiC (10p) Metal Matrix Composites machining using PCD inserts for a duration of 3 years (2009 -2012). Dr. N.Muthukrishnan, Professor in Mechanical Engineering department is acting as a Principal investigator for this project and Mr.R.Ramanujam, Senior Lecturer is the Co – Investigator.

(ii) M. Balaji (II M.E (CAD) student), participated and won best paper award for the paper titled "Analysis of sliding behaviour of non conformal contacting surfaces subjected to shear traction" at Golden jubilee National Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering (AIM ENGG 2011) organized by the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, from 3 - 5 January 2011. The student was fully sponspored by SVCE


(iii) Varun .D (Third year student), was sponsored to present a paper titled "A comparative study of Mechanical Characterization of Carbon fabric - epoxy and Carbon fabric - polypropylene matrix composites" in 3rd International conference on Recent Advances in Composite Materials, held at Limoges, France during 13-15 Dec.
(iv) Sathish Pandian .R (Final year student), won Best Paper award and presented a paper titled "Simulation and performance study of 3-DOF parallel manipultor units" in International conference on Emerging Trends in Robotics and Communication Technologies, held at Sathyabama university, Chennai during 3-5 December.
(v) Varun .D (third year student), won the first place and best design award at the "Wright Design" contest held at IIT Madras.

(vi) Lakshmi Narayanan .T (final year student), was sponsored to present a paper titled "Investigation of thrust, torque, delamination on drilling of glass fabric/polypropylene matrix composite" in the International Conference on Mechanical & Electrical energy, IEEE, held at Singapore.

(vii)K.A.Anant and Abhinav Ramesh (third year students) was sponsored to present a paper titled "Performance evaluation of Manganese Phosphate coating on High Carbon High Chromium  AISI D2 Steel"  at the "7th International Material Technology Conference and Exhibiion" held at HELTON Kuching, Malayasia during June 12 - 16. 
(viii) Kiran Paul .J of IV year was sponsored to present a paper titled “Performance study of latent heat TES system Integrated with natural circulating solar water heating unit using helical type heat exchangers” in the International conference on sustainable energy technology, 31st Aug – 3rd Sep, 2009, Aachen, Germany.
(ix) Shyam sundar of IV year was sponsored to present a paper titled “Emission and Performance characteristics of direct injection diesel engine fuelled with blended moringa olerifera oil”, in the SAE International (SAE 2009)- Powe trains Fuel and Lubricants meeting, June 15-17, 2009, Forence, Italy.
(iv) Venkatesh R. of IV year presented a paper titled “Machinability studies of Al/Sic/MMC using PCD insert tool (1300 grade)” in the International conference of Mechanical Engineering,-2009, London, U.K., 1-3, July, 2009.
(v) Vijaya padmaraja of III year student (2008) was sponsored to present a paper titled “Comparative study of sensible and latent heat storage system integrated with solar water heating system”, in the International Conference on Renewable Energy and Power quality-2008, March 12-14, 2008,Santander, Spain.
SPORTS:

N. Naresh (captain), A. Vishal, V. Nitish (final year students), Abinav & Haresh (third year students) are represented college football team from the department and secured Second Position (Runners up) in the Anna University Zonal level Football tournament.
