A studio course designed to provide the student with skills of designing in urban context considering various urban problems. Creation of a building complex with functional and spatial sophistication. Site selection outside Cyprus, first week of the studio being spared for a technical field trip to the selected city. The emphasis on the design concept at a larger scale with particular attention paid on achieving unity within the urban environment. Sensitivity to the existing context - in some cases the historic environment. Requirements include a contemporary quality of design, social factors, quality and hierarchy of open and semi-open spaces, street furniture and landscaping, orientation and organization of buildings on site, public-private interface, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, climatic considerations, appropriate construction systems and materials, and regulations.
