Typical hazards associated with chemical fertilizer use and remedial measures: Similarly, as in the case of the usage of pesticides, fertilizer usage may provide important benefits to horticulture development, but they also pose certain risks associated with accidental exposure of environment and of farmers during their inappropriate handling and usage. To ensure minimization of hazards associated with inappropriate handling, storage and usage of mineral fertilizers, a number of measures can be employed. The Table A.1 provides information about typical hazard scenarios that that may arise in conjunction with the procurement, handling and storage of fertilizers as well as the recommended measures to control the potential risks.
