Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research; to determine the factors affecting communication between patient-patient relatives and health personnel. Materials and Methods: Simple random sampling method and quantitative research design were used in the study. The questionnaire used in the research was created by Kurt (2015) and the Cronbach's Alpha value of the questionnaire used was found to be 0.864. The universe of the research was the patients who applied to a university hospital in Konya. The sample size is set to 120. Findings: %79.2 of the patients participating in the study were generally confident to physicians, %82.5 it may be the effect of the patient in the negativity between the physicians and the patients, %72.5 stated that their communication with the patient was adversely affected due to the intense work of the physicians and %42.5 stated that the current legal regulations (prescription, referral procedures, etc.) had a negative impact on the patient physician relationship. Conclusion: According to the results of the research found that, % 66.7 of the participants that patient find the communication with physicians the generally good, %61.7 of the health personnel group they communicate with the most, and %35.8 of the health personnel who communicate with the most difficult people are nurses.

Communication can be defined as the process of transmitting information and common understanding from one person to another (Lunenburg, 2010:1). The main objective of communication is mutual agreement. “The relationship between health personnel, patients relatives and patients is affected by many factors. Sometimes the nature of the relationship is characterized by the characteristics of the patient, sometimes the characteristics of the healthcare personnel. It is important that patients, patients relatives and health personnel establish health communication and understand each other mutually, in order to maintain quality of health care”(Başol,2018:1). The purpose of this research; to determine the factors affecting communication between patient-patient relatives and health personnel.

Material Method

Easy sampling method and quantitative research design were used in the study. The questionnaire used in the research was created by Kurt (2015) and the Cronbach's Alpha value of the questionnaire used was found to be 0.864. The universe of the research was the patients who applied to a university hospital in Konya.The sample size is set to 120.

Patients who participating in the survey, 59.2% are women, 35% are undergraduate and 14.2% are masters or doctoral graduates. 90.8% of the participants have social security, 28.3 % are unemployed and 10.8 % are occupations. 53.3 % of the patients income and expenses are almost equal, and 12.5 % is more than the income expenditures.

According to Table 2, 61.7% of the patients stated that, the health personnel that communicate best is the physician and 35.8% stated that the health personnel who communicate with the most difficult are the nurses. 55.8% of the patients stated that they got information from the physician when they came to the hospital.

According to Table 3, 79.2% of the patients participating in the study were generally confident to the physicians, 81.7% of them stated that physicians are treating patients overall good, 52.1% of them stated that the physician in charge of the service informed him / her about the situation in the best way possible. 52.1% of the patients had a negative memorial with a physician, 72.5% of the stated that intensive work of doctors negatively affects the communication with the patient, 66.7% stated that physicians communication with the patient generally good.42.5% of the participants stated that the current legal regulations (prescription, referral procedures, etc.) had a negative impact on the patient physician relationship.

According to Table 4, 41.7% of the patients said that physicians had to spend enough time on the problem of the patient during the interviews, 39,2% of the way the physicians meet (Interest-friendly) at a good level, 42,5% stated that physicians understand patients are better.

Discussion and Conclusion

According to the results of the research, 61.7% of the patients had the best communication with physicians and 35.8% had the most difficult communication with nurses.In parallel with these results, research conducted by Çelik (2008) and Kurt (2015) found that, the health personnel that patients communicate best is the physician and nurse and the personnel they communicate with the most difficult is the physician and nurse too. 42.5% of the patients stated that existing legal regulations (prescription, referral procedures, etc.) had a negative impact on patient physician relationship. According to a study conducted by Çelik (2008), it is found that the legal arrangements (prescription, dispatch, etc.) affected the communication between patient and physicians by 68.9%. 39.2% of the participants stated that the way the physicians meet (Interest-friendly) at a good level. According to Özensel and Koçak (2004), physicians want to show interest in their patients if they have time (76.1%). According to Çelik (2008) study, 58.3% of the patients stated that the healthcare personnel showed the necessary care for their patients and 62.9% of the patients stated that health care personnel behaved patients friendly. According to the results of the research, 66.7% of the participants stated that physicians communication with the patient generally good. According to the research by Kurt (2015), 42.9% of the patients stated that physicians good communication with the patient.
