5.20.1.1.1.1.1.1.1JCTVC-H0051 Burst transmission of I_PCM blocks [K. Chono, H. Aoki (NEC)]
This contribution presented simulation results of the burst I_PCM method proposed in JCTVC-G118. The method allows encoders to send I_PCM sample data of successive I_PCM blocks without termination associated with entropy coding process. It was asserted that this significantly enhances the throughput of transmitting PCM sample data of successive I_PCM blocks while reducing some bits of side information. Simulation results for common test sequences reportedly demonstrate that the burst I_PCM scheme does not affect the BD bit rate and time results of HM-5.0-dev-highlevel rev1712 software. Additional simulation results for a synthesized sequence reportedly demonstrate that it reduces the header bit rates of lossless coded video by 32 kbps or 2.4% without affecting encoding and decoding times.
It was confirmed and supported by crosscheckers that this is useful.
Decision: Adopted (and suggested to use simplified "version B" of the WD text, but both versions are expressing the same technical content).
