Summary report:

  • There were 2 proposals for non-normative RD optimization. Considering view synthesis distortion, both proposals are similar in concept with gains in the range of 5-6% on average.

  • Cross-checks reported matched coding results, but with some mismatches in rendering results.

  • The CE report recommended combining proposals and resolving mismatches during the meeting.

The two approaches were harmonized during the week to achieve 6% bit rate savings. Adoption into the ATM software was recommended. It would be of interest to harmonize with HEVC-based software, but this is not required and is planned only if someone volunteers to do so. It was recommended to turn on Depth RDO for common test conditions.

Conclusions:



  • Include harmonized approach in ATM, based on m23627 and m23662 (non-normative).

  • Turn on depth RDO in common test conditions.

  • Continue CE.
