Collaboration over networks is possible today. However, setting up and working in these collaborative environments and multi-user worlds is cumbersome due to complicated software systems and low performance of the systems. Especially media relevant to MPEG are not treated well. An extension of Bifs and LASeR such that they integrate well with these existing collaborative environments and their protocols is desirable. N12208 Use Cases for Collaborative Applications, N12206 Requirements on MPEG Scene Technology for Collaborative Applications, N12207 Context and Objectives for MPEG Scene Technology with Collaborative Applications, and N12209 Draft Call for Proposals for Scene Technologies for Collaborative Applications were released. It is envisioned that a CfP can be issued at the 98th meeting. Evaluation at the 99th meeting should enable MPEG to achieve CD-stage at the 101st meeting.
