INFORMATION BROCHURE AND APPLICATION FORM
Introduction: MIAGI has been involved in youth orchestra development since 2001. Our activities have shown sustained growth since then, and in 2008 we were able to offer several orchestral courses and performance opportunities, under the direction of highly acclaimed conductors such as Cem Mansur, Maxim Vengerov and Patrick Lange. The symphony and chamber orchestras, and the big band under the direction of Jannie “Hanepoot” van Tonder, performed to standing ovations in both the Cape Town City Hall and Johannesburg’s Linder Auditorium.
The next MIAGI Youth Orchestra course will take place on the beautiful riverside campus of HeronBridge College just north of Johannesburg between 25 April and 3 May 2009. The course will culminate in a performance in the Linder Auditorium on the evening of May 2^nd. This performance will be repeated later during the year in another province.
Requirements for Participation in 2009

• 
  Be 23 years of age or younger on 2 May 2009
  
• 
  Play an orchestral or jazz “big band” instrument
  
• 
  Play your instrument to a minimum UNISA Grade 6 level
  
• 
  Pass an audition
  
• 
  Be available between 25 April and 3 May 2008
  
• 
  Be available for any other performance(s) that may be scheduled between May & September 2009.

Auditions: Auditions will be held in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein, Welkom, Pretoria and Johannesburg from mid February 2009 onwards. Exact dates, times and venues will be notified to applicants in due course. For the audition you will be expected to play a study or solo work for your instrument (minimum Grade 6 standard) as well as the orchestral parts that will be made available in advance. If your playing is of a higher standard than the required minimum, this will be to your advantage. If you apply to audition you will be expected to be available for all the orchestra’s activities throughout the year. Should you wish to be considered as a possible soloist with the 2009 MIAGI Youth Orchestra, please submit a detailed music C.V. and provide full particulars of the work that you would like to perform.
Cost: There is no cost to individual participants who have been selected, and MIAGI does not exclude anyone because they are not in a position to contribute towards costs. . However, if you are able to do so, it would be greatly appreciated if you could contribute something towards expenses.
