January 22, 2018
The Board of Education of Community Unit School District #202, Knox County, met in a regular meeting duly called and held January 22, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at 809 E Main Street, Knoxville, Illinois, which is within the boundaries of said District. The President called the meeting to order and directed that the roll be called. Upon roll being called, the following members were found to be present:
Mr. Ericson, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Myers, Mrs. McCracken,

Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan


Absent: None
Also present were: Mr. Wilder, John Pulliam-Knoxville Bulletin, Nick Ischer-WGIL, Matt Maaske, Shane Gordon, Caden Ericson
Robert Connelly, The Register Mail arrived at 6:15 pm
4.0 Recognition of Visitors: None
5.0 Item #5 was tabled until the February 26, 2018 Board Meeting
6.0 It was moved by Member McCracken and seconded by Member Lenz to

Approve Consent Agenda Items 6.1-6.12


Roll call vote was as follows:
AYE: Mr. Ericson, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. McCracken,

Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan


NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.


7.0 Public Forum

7.1 Public Comments: None

7.2 Good Things Happening for Kids – Mable Woolsey is above the

National average for Winter Reading Benchmarks. Mable Woolsey

Life Skills have started a “shop” and raised over $ 900.00. The

money from these sales is used to replenish supplies, purchase

classroom supplies and funded community outings. The community

outings teach the kids how to tell time, social skills and how to behave

in the community and how to be “smart” shoppers. Students at Mable

Woolsey will celebrate the 100th day of school on January 29, 2018.

February will bring many Valentine parties and students are asked to

wear red and/or pink for tuberous sclerosis. There will be a “Bully”

assembly on February 16, 2018; no school on Monday, February 19;

the 4th Grade Spelling Bee will be on February 20 and the Daddy

Daughter Sock Hop Dance will be on February 24, 2018.

Knoxville Junior High Student Council has 15 students that qualified

to go to the Illinois Association Student Council Convention; four

Executive Board Members will also be attending. Maggie Wilder,

7th Grade will be running for the Midwest District Representative position. 5th Grade has been busy with their Egg Drop Projects and

will start to present them these next few weeks in their classes. 6th

Grade Language Arts are super engaged and love working on

“Breakouts” per Miss Grohmann. The Junior High 7th & 8th Grade

Cheerleaders performed on Sunday, January 21 at Knoxville High

School and were awarded First Place for this competition. The 7th

Grade boys concluded the basketball season and 8th Grade IESA

Regional Game will be on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at United

District # 304 at 10:00 am. Girls volleyball is in full swing with home

games on 1/24, 1/29, 2/7, 2/15, all games start at 5:30 pm. Wrestling

home meets are on 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, all meets are at Knoxville High

School and start at 5:30 pm.

Knoxville High School students are taking advantage of AP classes

to help them get ahead with classes and earn additional credits. Film

Club is in the process of making short 15-30 minute comedy and

horror films, some may be silent. These films may have a secondary

focus on commercials and newscast. They want to learn how to

product quality pictures and there are 10-15 students involved. HOBY

Leadership recently conducted an activity that grouped different

personalities that tested with similar attributes, completing with a lot

of direction and asking themselves “how was it like to work with the

different groups?” Three high school students represented our

community well at the National 4H Competition. Case Hennenfent,

Andy Bates and Evan Link were among 102 competitors and earned

individual awards to include 6th in Goats for Evan Link, 3rd in Cattle

for Case Hennenfent and out of 26 teams they placed 5th in Goats,

and a Top 10 in Cattle with a 12th place finish overall.

Knoxville High School Dance Team has qualified for the IHSA


State Competition this upcoming weekend in Bloomington, IL.

The Dance Team will compete in a preliminary round on Friday,

January 26 at 1:19 pm. Girls basketball continues to dominate

with a current season record of 21-4. Lauren Kavanagh, a

Junior reached 1,000 points for her basketball career. Senior Night

will be on January 31, 2018 vs. Brimfield. Regionals will be held

at home the week of February 5 through February 9, 2018. Boys

basketball currently has a varsity record of 4-16, JV is at 14-2.

Senior Night will be on February 9, 2018 vs, Monmouth-Roseville.

Regionals will be at home the week of February 19 through

February 23, 2018. Wrestling has a record of 10-6, Senior Night

will be held on January 23, 2018 vs. Beardstown. Wrestling

Regionals will be at Eureka on February 3, 2018. Knoxville

High School Cheerleaders hosted a home competition on

January 21, 2018 at the High School and will compete in the IHSA

Sectionals on January 27, 2018.

7.3 Superintendent’s Report

7.3.1 Mr. Wilder updated on the Budget percentages for Revenue

vs. Expenses and explained that the District is still waiting

on payments from the State.

7.4 Board Committee Reports

7.4.1 Activities- Knoxville High School Dance Team to State.

There will be a fundraising dinner for FCCLA held at the High

School on Thursday, January 25, 2018.

6.4.2 Building-Committee will meet.

6.4.3 Curriculum-None

6.4.4 Finance-None

6.4.5 Transportation-Bus Lease specs are public

9.0 New Business

9.1 It was moved by Member Myers and seconded by Member Johnson to

approve the 2018-2019 School Calendar (Discussion & Action)

Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.


9.2 It was moved by Member Johnson and seconded by Member

Ericson to approve the Abatement of 2017 Alternate Revenue

Bond Levy. (Discussion & Action)

Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan

9.3 It was moved by Member Lenz and seconded by Member Shreeves

for the approval to maintain Closed Session Minutes as Closed

(Discussion & Action)

9.4 It was moved by Member Lenz and seconded by Member Myers

to maintain Closed Session Recordings as Closed.

Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan


NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried


9.6 It was moved by Member Lenz and seconded by Member Johnson

for the approval of destruction of Closed Session Recordings for records

older than 1.5 years (Discussion & Action)
Roll call vote was as follows:

Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz, Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan

9.7 It was decided to table Item 9.7 until February 26, 2018 Board of

Education Meeting (Discussion Only)

10.0 Correspondence/Other Business

Miscellaneous thank you cards were shown and discussion only about the

Board Retreat.
11.0 It was moved by Member McCracken and seconded by Member Ericson to go into Closed Session at 6:35 (Discussion & Action)

Member McCracken left meeting at 6:50 pm
It was moved by Member Shreeves and seconded by Member Ericson to go back into Open Session at 6:57 pm.

NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried


12.0 Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Member Ericson and seconded by Member Lenz that meeting be adjourned

AYE: Mr. Ericson, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Myers, Mr. Lenz,

Mr. Shreeves, Mr. Callahan


NAY: None

Whereupon the President declared the motion carried
