2622 Hijack Mail: 1974 (18th Nov) commercial Airmail cover Stairbridge Worcester to British Consul General Perth, 10p meter franking. Superb strike of the two line "Delayed en Route/Aircraft Hi-jack" h/s. A British Airways VC10 Flight 870 en route to Singapore was hijacked at Dubai with 27 passengers, 8 airport workers who were cleaning the plane when it was hijacked & 10 crew. British Airways Captain Jim Futcher was awarded Queen's Gallantry medal for his "calm & courageous conduct" during the hijack. The hijack ended at Tunis with a German passenger murdered. A similar cover from this hijack was auctioned in Melbourne in 2011 & sold for $1150+. A rare interrupted aviation cover. (P) $500 $1000

These stamps were prepared by the Bigwoods printery but due to objections from Bailiff of Jersey & consultations with Berlin, they were never issued. Superb fresh MUH, pristine original gum & both matching left marginal. SG JW19 & JW20 cat £6000++, & under-catalogued (examples in our auction 295 sold for $5800+). Only 2 sheets of 30 recorded of each, & of those many were creased etc, with only tiny number of perfect MUH such as these existing.
