[Yusufali 6:74] Lo! Abraham said to his father Azar: “Takest thou idols for gods? For I see thee and thy people in manifest error.”

  • [Yusufali 9:114] And Abraham prayed for his father’s forgiveness only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to Allah, he dissociated himself from him: for Abraham was most tender-hearted, forbearing.

    [Yusufali 19:46] (The father) replied: “Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!”
    [Yusufali 19:47] Abraham said: “Peace be on thee: I will pray to my Lord for thy forgiveness: for He is to me Most Gracious.

  • All praise is to Allah One and Only, His book is very clear, father of noble prophet Ibrahim (alaihi salam) was disbeliever and polytheist.

  • When shias and other miquided sects are becoming speechless due to lack of proofs for their point of view, they starting twisting and playing with words.

  • They said:  Truly in verse used word “father”, but in reality that was his uncle.

  • We can see in verse that name of Ibrahim’s father was Azar. Let us go back to most authentic and most import book of hadeth for shias.

  • Kulayni in his “Kafi” (8/366-367/#558) narrated lengthy hadith, we need only first sentence from it.

  • عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ

  • عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ آزَرَ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ ( عليه السلام )  كَانَ مُنَجِّماً لِنُمْرُودَ

  • ” Narrated Ali ibn Ibrahim from his father, from ibn Abu Umeyr from Hisham ibn Salim from Abu Ayub al-Hazzari from Abu Abdullah (alaihi salam), which said: “Azar father of Ibrahim (alaihi salam) was astrologer of Namrud..”

  • Majlisi in his “Mirat” said this hadith is good (hasan).

  • Q: We are in urgent need of information about the differences between the Sunnis and Shi’is. We hope that you can explain something about their beliefs?.

  • A: Praise be to Allaah.

  • The Shi’ah have many sects. Some of them are kaafirs who worship ‘Ali and call upon him, and they worship Faatimah, al-Husayn and others. Some of them say that Jibreel (peace be upon him) betrayed the trust and the Prophethood belonged to ‘Ali, not to Muhammad. There are also others among them, such as the Imamiyyah – the Raafidi Ithna ‘Ashari – who worship ‘Ali and say that their imams are better than the angels and Prophets.

  • There are many groups among them; some are kaafirs and some are not kaafirs. The mildest among them are those who say that ‘Ali was better than the three (Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan). The one who says this is not a kaafir but he is mistaken, because ‘Ali was the fourth, and Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan were better than him. If a person prefers him over them then he is erring and is going against the consensus of the Sahaabah, but he is not a kaafir.

  • The Shi’ah are of different levels and types. The one who wants to know more about that may refer to the books of the scholars, such as al-Khutoot al-‘Areedah by Muhibb al-Deen al-Khateeb [available in English under the same title, translated by Abu Ameenah Bilaal Philips], Manhaaj al-Sunnah by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, and other books that have been written on this topic, such as al-Shi’ah wa’l-Sunnah by Ihsaan Ilaahi Zaheer [also available in English translation] and many other books which explain their errors and evils – we ask Allaah to keep us safe and sound.

  • Among the most evil of them are the Imamis, Ithna ‘Asharis and Nusayris, who are called al-Raafidah because they rejected (rafadu) Zayd ibn ‘Ali when he refused to disavow the two Shaykhs Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, so they went against him and rejected him.

  • Not everyone who claims to be a Muslim can be accepted as such. If a person claims to be a Muslim, his claim should be examined. The one who worships Allaah alone and believes in His Messenger, and follows that which he brought, is a real Muslim. If a person claims to be a Muslim but he worships Faatimah or al-Badawi or al-‘Aydaroos or anyone else, then he is not a Muslim.

  • We ask Allaah to keep us safe and sound. Similarly, anyone who reviles the faith, or does not pray, even if he says that he is a Muslim, is not a Muslim. The same applies to anyone who mocks the faith or mocks the prayer or zakaah or fasting or Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or who disbelieves in him, or says that he was ignorant or that he did not convey the message in full or convey the message clearly. All such people are kaafirs. We ask Allaah to keep us safe and sound.

  • al-Harawi narrated from Yusuf ibn Yahya al-Buwayti: “I asked Shafei can I pray behind rafidi?”. He answered: “Don’t pray behind rafidi, qadari, murjii”. I said: “Describe them to me”. He said: “Whoever said faith is (only) by saying he’s murjia, whoever would say Abu Bakr and Umar weren’t imams, he’s rafidi, and whoever would attribute mashiya to himself, he’s qadari”.

  • ـ وعن محمد بن الحسن ، عن الصفار ، عن الحسن بن موسى الخشاب ، عن يزيد بن إسحاق شعر ، عن عباس بن يزيد ، عن أبي عبدالله ( عليه السلام ) قال : قلت له : إن هؤلاء العوام يزعمون أن الشرك أخفى من دبيب النمل في الليلة الظلماء على المسح الأسود ، فقال : لا يكون العبد مشركا حتى يصلي لغير الله ، أو يذبح لغير الله ، أو يدعو لغير الله عزّ وجلّ .

Yazid from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  He said: I said to him: Verily these `awamm claim that shirk is more obscure than the creeping of the ant in a dark night upon the black haircloth.  So he said: The servant is not a mushrik until he prays to other than Allah, or slaughters (an animal) for other than Allah, or supplicates to other than Allah `azza wa jalla.

  • Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi Taala wa barakatu.

  • Imam Abu Sad Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abdullah ibn Hafs ibn Halil al-Ansare al-Harawe al-Malini as-Sufi narrated in his book «Arbain fi shuyookh as-soofiya» with chain till Anas ibn Malik: When envoys of banu Mustalik or Muntafik separated from prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam), i followed them. They said to me: O Anas! Go back to prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) and say: Ya rasulullah! When we separated from you, we forgot to ask, if you would die, to whom should we give zakat?». Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) said: «Give it to Abu Bakr». I went back to them and said that. They asked me: «Go back and ask, if Abu Bakr would die, then to whom?» Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) said: «Go back to them and say, it (should be given then) to Umar». They asked me to go back and ask, if Umar would die, then to whom? I went, and Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) said: «Go back to them, and say (in this case) to Uthman».

  • Editor of book dr. Amir Hasen Sabri said: «Chain is hasan». And he also noticed that similar narration was transmitted by Hakeem (3/77) who said it’s saheeh, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
    This hadeeth has 3 shawaheed in weak chains, from Abu Hurayra, Ismat ibn Maleek, and Sahl ibn Abe Khamsa.

  • In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

  • Imam Ali Ibn Abi al `Izz al Hanafi said:

  • We love the Companions of the Prophet. Nonetheless we do not go to extremes in the love of anyone of them, nor do we forsake anyone of them. But we hate him who hates them, and talks of them in an unseemly manner. As for us, we do not mention them but in good terms. Their love is religion, faith, and excellence. And their hatred is disbelief, hypocrisy and rebellion.

  • This is because Allah spoke well of them, as did His Messenger. Allah was pleased with them and promised them “the good.” He said:

  • “And the Outstrippers from among the Immigrants and the Helpers and those who followed them in good deeds, Allah was pleased with them and they were pleased with Him. He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. That is the great triumph.” (Al-Tawbah, 100)

  • Allah also said:

  • “Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him, are hard upon the unbelievers, compassionate among themselves, you see them bowing down, prostrating themselves.” (Al-Fut-h, 29)

  • The Sahihayn have a report narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri. It says that something happened between Khalld b. Walid and ‘Abdul Rahman b. ‘Awf, Khalld said a harsh word to ‘Abdul Rahman. The Prophet (saws) said: “Don’t say harsh things to any of my Companions. If one of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, he will not achieve in any measure what any one of them achieved – not even half of that.” Thus we see that the Prophet (saws) prohibited one who had latter companionship from speaking against one who had earlier companionship. This, when a person of the stature of Khalid ibn Walid is involved, who embraced Islam before the fall of Makkah. What about him who had no share of his companionship?

  • Incidentally, what is narrated of the Prophet’s words, viz., “My companions are stars. Whomsoever you followed, you will be guided” is a weak report not to be found in any of the authentic collections.

  • However, the following is an authentic report from the Prophet. He said: “No one who pledged his hand under the tree will enter the Fire.”

  • ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud put it very aptly when he said describing them: “Allah looked upon the hearts of the people and found the heart of Muhammad as the best among them. So He chose him for Himself, and sent him with His message. Then He looked at the hearts of the people, after the heart of the Prophet (saws), and found the hearts of his companions as the best among the people. Therefore He made them helpers to His messenger.”

  • Referring to Tahawi’s words, “Their hatred is disbelief and hypocrisy,” we have already spoken over the declaration of apostasy while speaking of the innovators. This disbelief (as used by Tahawi) is of the same nature as mentioned in the words of Allah:

  • “And whoever did not judge by what Allah has revealed, they, such are the unbelievers.” (Al-Ma ‘idah, 44)

    One of the fundamental beliefs of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama`ah that at times distinguishes them from heretics is their belief in the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w.) and all that has been mentioned about their virtues, merits and characteristics in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

    Companions are all those who met the Prophet (s.a.w.) and died as Muslims. Scholars have said that they were 114,000 in number [as stated by Abu Zur'ah, the teacher of Imam Muslim, and recorded by as-Suyootee]. They are praised in many Qur’anic verses: “You are the best of peoples ever raised for mankind, you enjoin good and forbid evil, and you believe in Allah.” [3:110] “And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajiroon (the Emigrants from Makkah) and the Ansar (the citizens of Al-Madeenah who helped the Muhajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allah is well-pleased with them as they are well pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.” [9:100] “Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they gave their pledge to you (O Muhammad) under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts and He sent down calmness and tranquility upon them…” [48:18]

    Our Attitude Towards Them

    Our attitude towards the Sahaba should be that of love, respect, peace and purity of our hearts and tongues. Allah has described this in His saying: “And those who come after them say: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed.’” [59:10] And the Prophet (s.a.w.) said, “The sign of faith is love of the Ansar and the sign of hypocrisy is the hatred of Ansar” [al-Bukharee, Muslim]. Why should we not be thankful to those who believed in the Prophet, assisted him, strove with their lives and wealth to make the Word of Allah supreme, preserved and transmitted to us our Religion? Who is more deserving that we pray for them and speak of them in the best manner and think of them with the best thoughts?

    We should therefore mention their virtues and remain silent about any mistakes they made and about anything that occurred between them, as the Prophet (s.a.w.) advised us: “When my Companions are mentioned then withhold” [Saheeh, at-Tabaranee]. And he also said, “Do not abuse my Companions, for if any of you were to spend gold equal to (mountain of) Uhud in charity, it would not equal a handful of one of them or even half of that” [al-Bukharee, Muslim]. And he said, “Whoever abuses my Companions, upon them is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people” [Saheeh, At-Tabaranee].

    Muslim scholars have also been very strict in regard to the issue of speaking and thinking mistrustfully of the Sahaba. Imam Malik said that someone who finds in himself an ill-feeling or anger “ghaiDH” about the Companions is a kafir because Allah (s.w.t.) says “li-yagheeDHa bihim ul kuffar” that He may enrage the disbelievers with them, i.e. the Sahaba [48:29]. And the `Ulama’ also say if the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w.) are disbelievers, dishonest or betrayed the Prophet, then the whole religion is undermined. Because how do we know what the Prophet (s.a.w.) said, if the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w.) were not honest and truthful? We cannot be sure. And this also applies to the Qur’an, as we received the Qur’an through the Sahaba as well. Indeed, they were truthful and sincere, as Allah described them: “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah and showed not their backs to the disbelievers, of them some have fulfilled their obligations and some of them are still waiting, but they never changed (i.e. they never proved treacherous to their covenant which they concluded with Allah) in the least.” [33:23] Hujjat ul Islam, Sufyan ibn `Uyainah said: “He who speaks a single word against the Companions of Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w.) then he is an innovator.” And Imam Ahmad said: “If you see anyone speaking ill of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, doubt his Islam.” And Adh-Dhahabee said, “Anyone who criticizes them or insults them has gone out of this religion and has seregated himself from the Muslim Ummah. He has disbelieved in what Allah the Most High says concerning them in His Book, and what Allah’s Messenger has said concerning their noble qualities and their merits… It is incumbent upon the Muslims to love Allah; to love His Messenger, to love what the Prophet brought as guidance and as his practise; to love his descendants, his Companions, his wives, his children, his servants, and to love those who love them and hate those who hate them, as this is the meaning of loving for Allah’s sake and hating for Allah’s sake, and that is the most excellent kind of faith.” In al-Kaba’ir (The Greatest Sins), we find that adh-Dhahabee also said, “The one who loves the Prophet loves and respects each and all of his Companions. To hate any of them is to hate the Prophet.” Al-Fudayl ibn `Iyyad spoke similarly when he said, “Indeed, I love those whom Allah loves. They are those from whom the Companions of Muhammad (s.a.w.) are safe. I hate those whom Allah hates. They are the people of the deviant sects and innovation.”

    These statements of the great Imams of the Ummah should not surprise us, because a slight doubt about the Companions will in fact be accusing the Prophet himself of hiding the truth about them which he knew (that they were hypocrites, as heretics claim), but he did not tell us!! Or one is accusing him (s.a.w.) of being something like an imbecile, as Shaikh Ja’far Idris once spoke, because the Prophet, supposedly did not know although he lived with these people all the time. He thought that they were the best Muslims, but they were hypocrites. That is why al-Barbaharee said, “Know that anyone who tries to attack the Companions of Muhammad (s.a.w.) really seeks to attack Muhammad (s.a.w.).”

    The Best of the Companions

    We should note that the best of the Ummah, after the Prophet (s.a.w.) were Abu Bakr, then ‘Umar, then ‘Uthman, then ‘Ali. As far as the Caliphate is concerned, Ibn Taymeeyah has said that anyone who “objects against anyone of these regarding this order of caliphate, he will be regarded more misguided than the domestic donkey.”

    And `Abdul-`Azeez al-Qari said that Abu Haneefa “declared anyone who doubts the caliphate of Aboo Bakr and ‘Umar is a disbeliever. He also declared anyone who slanders the Mother of the Believers ‘A’isha to be a disbeliever. And he stated that the prayer behind a Rafidhee [extreme Shee'ah who curse and abuse the Companions] is invalid.”

    Ahlus Sunnah also, “accept all the superiorities and grades that have been described about them in the Qur’an, the Hadith and by concensus. They give superiority to those who spent and fought for the sake of Allah before the victory, that is, truce of Hudaibiyah over those who spent and fought after that. They consider al-Muhajireen (those who migrated from Makkah to al-Madeenah for Islam) to be superior to al-Ansar (the helpers of al-Madeenah who supported the Muhajireen). They have faith in what Allah has said about the 313 persons on the occasion of the battle of Badr that, ‘they are free to do what they like, their sins are pardoned’ [al- Bukharee]. And none of those who gave their pledge to the Prophet (s.a.w.) under the tree will get into Fire as the Prophet (s.a.w.) has stated, ‘Allah is doubtlessly pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah.’ And they were more than 1400 about whom the Prophet (s.a.w.) bore witness that they will be admitted to Paradise [Muslim]. The Ahlus Sunnah also bear witness the admission to Paradise for them such as the ten Companions who have been given glad tiding of Paradise in this world by the Prophet.” [Al-aqeedatul Wasitiyyah of Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymeeyah]
