Review of CE process

The Chair presented an overview of:

MPEG Audio CE methodology for 3D Audio work (from 104^th MPEG meeting)

The Chair reviewed the CE process that is used for MPEG-H 3D Audio. In particular, he reviewed the situation for CEs whose merit are in the “grey zone” and thus require discussion. He emphasised that:

  Items in the “grey zone” are ones that require all of the discussion
  
• 
  Whatever the decisions, the Chair must be sure that all CE’s are judged using the same principles.
  

Remarks on MPEG-H Phase 2

In addition, the Chair noted that at the 111^th MPEG meeting he urged experts to consider whether 3D Audio Phase 2 bitstreams are compatible with 3D Audio Phase 1 decoders. Now, it seems that there is not an immediate need in the marketplace for 3D Audio Phase 1, and that in stead the market will embrace 3D Audio Phase 2. Hence Phase 2 should be considered the “complete package” that is being developed for the marketplace.
