Introduction to the unit •
Read the title of the unit while students look at
the photograph. Then ask
What’s Unit 8 about? (

lights .)
What do you think they’re celebrating? Which country is the celebration in? Accept students’
suggestions and then tell them about the Yi Peng Festival
(see

or globe, ask students to find and point to Thailand.
•
Then ask
Would you like to be at this celebration? Why? /
Why not? •
Make pairs and say
Tell your partner the last time you were at a celebration. What was the occasion? What did you wear? What did you do? Students talk in pairs.
Circulate, help with new language, and encourage
students to ask their partners more questions.
