Duties
The Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) is committed to the maintenance of Official War and Post-War memorials in perpetuity. In this role OAWG maintains war cemeteries and individual graves throughout Australia and liaises with corresponding entities overseas to ensure that war graves or memorials of Australian Personnel in overseas countries are provided and maintained to appropriate standards. Following the establishment of eligibility of a veteran for the provision of a memorial, OAWG undertakes the provision and maintenance in perpetuity of an official commemoration. These
may be in a civil cemetery, a lawn cemetery, a crematorium or a Garden of Remembrance. OAWG provides and maintains these memorials and employs both contractors and workforce to achieve these objectives.
The New South Wales Office provides horticultural and structural maintenance and construction services for Commonwealth War Graves Commission War Cemeteries,
Gardens of Remembrance, ashes placements and individual graves located in general cemeteries throughout the New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. As part of the team you will be required to work at various locations around the area of operations.
You will be based in or around the Sydney War Cemetery and Garden of Remembrance.
Duties will include the carrying out horticultural and turf management and maintenance tasks including planting, weed control,
floral displays, landscape construction, basic stonemasonry, concreting,
installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, maintenance of horticultural machinery and equipment together with minor painting and bronze plaque refurbishment.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
A Certificate
III of Horticultural, or like competencies.
Willingness to travel throughout the State on work related travel when provided appropriate notice. A current State Drivers licence is mandatory for this position.
