Generally speaking, the student’s affiliation at the host university is decided based on TU’s advice and the student’s preference. However, it might not be possible for the student to be affiliated with the desired department.
Medical Insurance Provided by the Host University or Host Nation/Region
Some universities, countries or regions require visiting exchange students to join an institutional/local insurance scheme. The premium varies by institution, status of the exchange student (undergraduate, or graduate, etc.), and length of study period. If the coverage of such required insurance does not satisfy the requirements set by Tohoku University (described in (4) in Article 5), the student is required to buy an insurance plan that satisfies the requirements of Tohoku University in addition to the insurance plan required by the host university or host nation/region. To buy an insurance plan is mandatory. Recommendation from TU to a partner institution might be canceled in case of non-fulfillment of the mandatory.
