Established in 1395 as the official royal residence, this palace is regarded as one of the finest examples of Joseon Dynasty architecture. On its expansive grounds are the National Folk Museum, the National Palace Museum, and the breathtaking Gyeonghoeru and Hyangwonjeong Pavilions.

This palace, the best preserved among Seoul’s major palaces, was designated a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and is most famous for its beautiful garden. To protect the buildings for future generations, only guided tours are permitted.

Deoksugung harmoniously blends architectural styles of the East and West, and its location in downtown Seoul provides a wonderful retreat from the bustling metropolis. Everyday, a reenactment of the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony is held at its east gate (except Mondays).
