South Africa submitted proposed areas for cooperation for further consideration by the EU.
The Department commenced with an analysis of the WTO position with respect to ICTs and foreign ownership limitations.
South Africa was successful in negotiating measures to address the role of governments and their responsibility towards public policies with respect to the internet, as well as developing text on broadband and development.
The Department also promoted, through inputs into WTDC, cybersecurity, broadband policy and other key issues.
During the ITU plenipotentiary conference, key WSIS outcomes were addressed, in particular internet governance and related issues, cybersecurity, access by disabled persons, broadband access, and other critical issues such as e-health, and safety of children on-line.
