The Departments employment equity plan was approved and implemented. At the end of reporting the Department achieved 37.4% gender representativity at SMS level.

Priority was given to the organisational review process which affected recruitment.

2.28 % representation of people with disabilities across the Department was achieved.

Integrated Strategic Management and Project Management frameworks implemented within prescribed legislative requirements.

  • The Department ensured submission of quarterly performance reports against the strategic plan, to the Executive Authority.

  • In the 2011/2014 strategic plan was timeously tabled in Parliament.

  • Branch Business, Operational plans and project plans were developed and periodically monitored and evaluated.

  • The 2009/2010 Annual Report timeously developed and tabled in Parliament.

Integrated progressive and innovative HR strategy implemented within prescribed legislative requirements .

  • Recruitment was conducted in terms of the Recruitment policy.

  • Two service providers were appointed to assist with recruitment and selection process.

  • All Human Resource Administration and Human resource information system transactional functions were affected which includes service benefits and conditions, subsistence and travelling and HR information.

  • The following HR policies have been reviewed and or developed and is to undergo the approval process:

    • Education,

    • Training and development policy,

    • Bursary policy,

    • Induction policy ,

    • Career management policy, and

    • Performance management policy.

  • The Department internship program for 2009/10 was successfully completed on the 31st May 2010. Recruitment for the internship program for 2010/2011 was concluded. Nineteen interns commenced duty on the 1st of March 2011.

  • During the reporting period the Department an extensive organisational review and realignment process. The recommendation of which was communicated to all staff members and will be implemented in the next financial year.

Reviewed Business Management processes and systems implemented to ensure sound financial management and other services.

  • The Department undertook and extensive review of its existing financial related policies.

  • The Department ensured that the service providers were paid within 30 days.

  • The Annual Financial Statements were prepared and submitted on time to both National Treasury and the Auditor General.

  • The final Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE) Chapter was completed timeously and submitted to National Treasury.

  • The Department ensured at all times that all transactions were undertaken in line with the provisions of the PFMA. Where transgressions were detected, corrective measures were put in place to prevent recurrence.
